Hi,
I just have a general question for you. I'm sending my horse for training in November. I want her to be a hunter, and I was just wondering in general, I know it typically depends on the horse, how long does it take to train a horse to jump? She is so willing, and loves to learn, I think she won't have any problem with it. I just want to know what the general time frame is. Is it generally 2 monthes? 3 monthes? Or maybe even 4 monthes? I have no idea, I just want to know because this is all knew to me, i've never had a horse that needed to be trained before. My two other horses I have were already trained when I bought them. She has had a saddle on her back and the people who owned her before us were riding her on trail. She's 2 1/2 and like I said before she is so willing to learn. She catches on to things really fast. Thanks so much,
Halle

it really depends on the horse, if she learns quickly great but does she learn if properally? Their are all these key elements for training. I guess you will just have to wait and see about how long her training is, ask the trainer what a perdected time is. Let me know how it goes:D

Hi Halle,

congratulations on your new horse and welcome to NR :).

Do you know how intensive the training will be? At 2 and a half she's still quite young and will still be maturing - both physically and mentally. I know it's quite common to start horses at this age in the States, but over here in Britain most horses would be backed as 3 (or 4) year olds but wouldn't really start schooling until they were 4 or even 5. It's good that she's so eager to learn, but she might be in for quite a shock if this her first bit of serious schooling.

btw - I don't mean this to offend or criticise, just to give you a different view :).

Thanks for responding. We are making sure she is ready to go. On wednesday the Veternarian is coming out to X-ray her legs to make sure they are closed enough for training. In June they were wide open. Our vet predicted that by the end of October they would be closed enough for her to start training. If they aren't she will not go. If the vet also finds some other reason she can't go then she won't. Paints and quarter horses seems to be able to start earlier than other horses. Thanks for your thoughts!
