I've my stage one exam on friday  i'm only doing the care section. i know i can wear joddie boots (black) and cream jod's but will i get away with black half chaps? Also wearing white shirt and tie and v neck jumper what colour would be better black or navy?

I would have thought that chaps would be acceptable for the care section as it is a safety issue - you are protecting your legs. May be best to check direct with BHS exam section or with the centre.
They won't be bothered if the jumper is black or navy. Dark and smart is all that is expected.

I could be wrong, it might have changed or be different for the care section only, but on the BHS website, it says in the exam guidelines that half chaps are not suitable. I don't know why, I would have thought they'd be ok as long as they fitted well. It might be simply to do with your appearance, they seem to like everyone super smart, and some chaps (especially mine!) can look a bit scruffy.
I would phone the exam centre, just be sure!
As for the black/navy jumper, I wuld go with black, as it will match your boots.

Good luck my stage ones in march but im taking the riding aswel. Your not allowed to wear half chaps to either exam becuase they not smart enough I'd just wear your joddy boots.
Im wearing a hacking jacket, dark coloured plain tie, white shirt, cream jods, long leather boots, skull cap with navy velvet silk and a "sexy" hairnet!lol

If I was doing stage one stable work I'd be in and expect any one else to be in safety boots, and a boiler suit!
For goodness sake it's filthy farm work, Even the Queen allows her stable staff to wear a flippin' overall.
Why do you need to be "smart" to muck out and move poo around? What is the matter with them? Shirt and tie in winter, sorry, but honestly.

I totally agree! Especially about the safety boots, the BHS is supposed to be about safety so why are you supposed to do the care section in joddy boots? At least you don't have to wear headscarves anymore .....

erm, groom, tail bandage, rug up,tack up, muck out, questions on muck heap, feeding, life of the horse and temperment, colour and points of the horse and accident procedures, shoeing, trot up and stand up. I think that covers most of it .. oh and hay nets. but it's not as difficult as i was expecting. just take a breath before you answer :) or you knot up................... I hate exams!!!
