I have taken on breaking a 6 year old 17hh TB, gelded earlier this year. Apart from leading to and from field, and general stable handling, he has done nothing. In the school I have him in a snaffle (he had already been bitted) and lunge cavesson, with lunge rein attached to centre ring. Initially I was just leading him around, but he is very reluctant to walk forwards - even more so when leading from the right. His concentration is next to nothing, as he is busy looking for his friends in the field! After a couple of days I managed to get him walking on a length of rein, but he still wont walk forward and manages half a circuit before stopping. Have tried lunging with someone else walking around with him, but still does not walk forward. A lunge whip means nothing to him, so I thought I would try loose schooling to get him going forwards, but he just stands in the corner, bucking, looking out in the field taking absolutely no notice of me. Have tried at different times of the day when no-one is about, to herds of people/horses. Any advice on how can I get him to concentrate on me and go forwards? he is a BIG chap to stand his ground!

Do you have an instructor who can give you assistance and advice? If not may be worth considering getting in touch with one.
We bought a good book on how to bring on a young horse, you may find this type of thing invaluable. Once you have the leading in and out from the field going well, keep trying in the school until he is comfortable doing that as well. Have you also thought about Parelli games, this may help establish some manners and help his concentration. Or even clicker training may be of use too to get him to concentrate.
Make a plan of action of things that you can build up bit by bit from one small stage to another, do this in a steady manner and do not push for too much too soon.
Good luck

It could possibly be the bit he is resisting onto it?? I know afew horses that have been reluctant to move forward, in eggbutt snaffles and walk forward very willingly in a frenchlink! It could be a respect issue, or possibly the bit - resisting onto it, aka. not happy in the mouth.
Whats his head like in the bit you have in? is he giraffe styled? or in a nice outline?
Good luck!
