Hiya Jo,

Nice to meet you, I'm also called Jo and relatively new to the site. I have 3 of my own horses at the mo and one on loan, but it gets very complicated as of my 3, 2 are away at stud and one is out on loan!!

I live in London, work in an office (very boring) so REALLY need my riding to keep me sane!!

Lots of eventing and SJ experience but have come back after a 2 year break so starting out on dressage just now.

Look forward to reading more posts from you!!

JJ.

Hiya Jo!!

I also work in an Office. Im a PA for an electrical company. Why did you have a 2 year break from horses? I stopped a while back to do GCSE's and never again. Missed it so much.

Im quiet lucky as after work i go to the farm to do all the afternoon chores!! Fresh air does you good.

Why do you loan your one horse out and have another on loan?

It wasn't by choice - i broke my pelvis so couldn't physically do much for a few years, drove me nuts!! Then moving to London for work delayed it another 2 years due to costs mainly.

The horse I loan out (jack) is the one i was riding when i hurt myself - we cartwheeld over a set of parallel bars at Longleat horse trials and both had a very painful landing. The whole trust thing has gone but i really didn't want to sell him so he is on permanent loan to a very good friend who does wonders with him. The horse i have on loan now is a very sweet TB mare who hasn't done much work recently so we're getting fit again together, though she has actually been lame on and off for 2 weeks - aaaarrrggggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

What do you do with your guys? And don't you just hate being in an office when you could be out for a good hack??!!!

Ouch, i bet breaking your pelvis hurt. I hope your ok now though.

The 5 month old New Forest is wild!!!! I bought her two weeks ago straight off the New Forest. I have been trying to get near her for two weeks. Last week i managed to fuss her in the stable and yesterday i managed to stroke her all over in the field!!!!! She's getting so much better.

The 18 month old Sec D is actually for sale. I bought him with a friend when we went to a horse sale. He was horrible looking and mistreated. Both of us felt sorry for him and bought him there and then. We only went for a bag of carrots and came back with a pony that had worms, lice etc!!!! He is such a friendly, bubble horse and will take someone far.

And then theres my T-Bred mare. She was a nut case!! I bought her when she was mistreated and kept her. We had such a bond and then she got fit!! What ever i put in her mouth, did with her she just decided to bolt!!! If i pointed her to a hedge she'd go over it no matter how big. She was getting dangerous as i couldn't even ride her down the road. Dressage instructors rode her and still couldn't handle her!!! So i was going to have a foal from her and hope that calmed her down, but as my last resort i thought i'd try Parelli. And im glad i did. After 2 1/2 months of doing it i can ride her bareback with a halter and a rope, in an open field, walk, trot and canter and STOP!!!!!

Now im hooked. I will never go back to the typical English way of riding. You know, harsh bits and rein gadgets etc.

Sorry for the long post. Im just so happy now that i can ride my mare safely.

What do you do with yours? Event? I'd love to event mine one day as she now has the potential

Pelvis was pretty painful, then just got boring because there were loads of things i couldn't do.

You TB sounds like a bit of a handful, but so good that she has now settled down. I am a huge fan of TB's (one of my broodmares is purebred) and their little quirks but there is a fine line between difficult and dangerous!

I used to event up to Intermediate level and showjump up to Foxhunters but am very rusty at the moment. I would love to start eventing again if my girl is bold enough (and her legs are sound) but am going to take it slowly over the winter as she is really unfit and has quite a few bad habits like rushing and incorrect bend.

If you've got breaks then sounds like you could easily try for some eventing with your girl - she sounds like she's bold enough and has the jump on her!! Like everything it's all about the rhythm so if you've got that give it a go!
