Following on from the visit from the RA, I need to get a 'dually' type halter sorted out. When she came the smallest size of the official dually was massive, so we just used his normal headcollar and she clipped the longreins on the side of the noseband. It didnt give any pressure release as such and the trigger clip stuck into the side of his nose, but there wasnt anything else she could use. I do need to sort something out properly to continue what we started. As the webbing width of the original dually is about 1inch wide I cant alter an original as its so wide it would rub the corner of his eyes.

I need a headcollar that is like the dually with just the nose pressure and that can be used from both sides, but that is small enough for Ben. Ben doesnt react very well at all to poll pressure so the 'be nice halter' wouldnt work for him without some bad reaction. We looked at my Parelli halter and that only has under the chin loop and nothing at the sides to clip anything onto and it doesnt release like the Dually, it also gives a fair amount of concentrated poll pressure.

Now looking at the dually and how its made, if I took a normal headcollar with the brass squares at the nose band sides and removed the top part of the noseband. I could then stitch the noseband top above the brass square. But what sort of rope could I use for the controller bit and where would I get it from? I expect that I could get some brass rings from somewhere to stop the rope from sliding all the way through the brass squares, but how would I fasten the two ends of the rope together? I think that there is a big brass clamp on the original, but what could I use?

Edited to say that I am not infringing on copyright as this is for Bens use only and it definately wont be available at a shop near you! ;) (although there is definately a market for a small dually!)

This is a pic of the original dually:

If get a red dually you could make more holes so it does up smaller, using a heated nail to make neat holes in the nylon webbing.

Alternatively if the problem is that the cheekpieces are too long for him and you're a bit handy in the sewing department could you unstitch them and shorten them to his size? I've asked this question on IH myself.

I'd seriously doubt that anyone from IH would sue you for breach of copyright:D

.... and I probably have a red one for sale as the headpiece bit is too short :(
