Hi my name is Nia,
Im 14 and have been riding since I was 6, I own a 11yo tbxcob dbay gelding called Jasper. He is a handful to ride but a right sweety :D , I have Jumped him about 3ft6 but have seen him jusp 4ft which is good considering how stocky he is,
I hope to ride him in a english hackamore and he as been badly mistreated by a heavy handed owner previously at the moment he is in a kimblewick and that has no effect on him so any advice?

With regards to your horse, try him in a hackamore, but be really careful. they are a lot stronger and harsher than they seem even though they have no bit.

Always use the lightest possible aid, dont just assume that youll have to forcefully jank him in the mouth to stop. Use your seat and a light pressure with your hands. Take and release the pressure, slightly harder each time until he slows. This means that eventually, after a while he should start to associate a light pull back on his mouth with having to stop as opposed to a hard jank. It will take time and a lot of patience, but in the end you should have a horse a lot softer in your hands.

Oh yeah, and dont forget to reward him as soon as he does slow or stop!!
