WHICH SADDLE???
Hi Guys, looking for advise, looking to purchase new saddle for rescued horse. Is very thin at moment, but is eating well and will hopefully be putting on plenty of weight. Because of this I was thinking of the Wintec with the gullet change system, as this will fit him now and later. Does anyone have any good or negative experiences with Wintec??? And has anyone tried the new VSD, just so much to choose from.
Or is it best to get a saddle fitter in?? Please help.
Oh just which way to go.

Get a saddle fitter in especially if the horse has poor condition he may need more flocking or special pads had very bad experience with wintecs as they don't suit every shape of horse

Hi,
I had this problem when i first got my mare. She was very thin so i got her a wintec. Excellent at first but as my mare is high withered but a medium build none of the gullets fitted her. I got her a new one last year. Leather GSF. She hated it. Kept bucking, went hollow etc. Had a refund and went back to synthetic. Got a thorowgood high withered size medium. Fitted her at first but then after a month or so she wasn't working to her best. So i started riding her bareback. She went superb. Put it down to saddle. Bearing in mind her back was checked at all times and a proper saddle fitter came out to do her.
Knowing that she didn't get on with the leather saddle, i had one made by the Saddle Company. They were great and i now have a saddle that synthetic underneath and leather on top. It was only about £400 and if she changes shape they will reshape the saddle tree for me as its plastic.
Anyway, after my experience id go for the wintec, but don't stick with it when your horse is fit.

If you fancy splashing out then you can now get treeless saddles from Heather Moffet range that are great but your looking at £1000.!!!

Do you have a web address for the Saddle Company?

Going to have a look on the internet now for the Saddle Company, thanks.
I know each saddle is a personal choice for horse and rider, but always good to get someones opinion that has used both. Such an expensive purchase dont want to get it wrong. (well already have, bought 2 second hand and neither fit!).

I always recommend them, I've been very pleased with mine and have had it adjusted 3 times as Rio has changed shape. Their customer service is second to none too, I was having a few problems with the saddle being pushed back by Rio's big shoulders and they have restuffed and refitted it with a half panel free of charge. Should be back any day now:D
I would never buy a treed saddle that couldn't be adjusted, horses change shape too often.

I have a wintec 500gp and a 500 dressage. My horse has changed shape and I've moved from a narrow gullet to a medium wide (but gone wider to accomodate a gel pad in fairness so more like a medium).
I always have a saddle fitter out every 6 months to review and refit and so far I've been very happy with mine and thats 2 years.

Hi there
Two weekends ago I bought a Wintec VSD with Cair system. It has a medium gullet but I also bought a medium wide gullet, as I felt my ID x TB would probably need it.
I am 100% happy with the comfort, both to me and my horse, and would highly recommend one.:)

I have a wintec and it is a good saddle to use whilst the horse is changing shape.
I also have a dressage saddle co saddle and it's so comfortable for me and my horse. My horse has big shoulders and this saddle really frees her shoulders. I'm hoping to buy a GP saddle co saddle after xmas.

Firstly, I am the joint owner of the Holistic Horse Centre which is a trade registered name, you may not use this name for any purpose and i would therefore request that you have a different user name on this site.
Secondly, with the name such as Holistic Horse I would expect you to know that this type of saddle is not the best for any horse or pony. I would strongly suggest that you contact balance international who will be only too pleased to fit your horse with the most appropriate saddle that will allow him to grow but will also let his shoulders move in the process. You can find them at balanceinternational.com. Speak to Carol or Lavinia.

?Treeless?
Just a point on the name thing - I didn't think 'Holistic Horse' was the same as the 'Holistic Horse Centre'?

Oh please, it's a name. It's like me using Wintec for my username. What difference does it make? It's not as if the person is 'selling' the name. Yes, Hollistic Horse doesn't mean the same thing either.

I'm shocked by this lisawright, its a username not a trade name. Holistic Horse has the right to use what ever she wants as a username.
Don't change it Holistic Horse and im sorry your post turn out this way.
Balance Saddles are very expensive, have looked into it myself. We have all given you our expeiences with Wintec etc saddles so what ever you do now is up to you.
Happy Riding

Judging by your user profile lisawright you have only just joined NR.
We would all like to extend a warm welcome to you and hope it helps you as much as it helps the rest of us.
This is a very friendly site as I am sure you will see and I hope you appreciate this is said with the warmest of meanings..
There is no place for bitchiness on this site. I am sure you own the rights to the name Hollistic Horse Centre but I am pretty sure that you dont own the rights to using the words Holistic or Horse or the two put together. It simply means that no-one else can trade under that name. Which I am sure you must agree, she isnt.
That you, with your history of 2 posts, should come on here and start asking people to change their usernames is arrogant to the extreme.
And as for expecting someone to know something just because of their username...good grief.
Thank god there are lots of generous people on this site.

Damned cheek! And as if having a 'holistic' horse means you must use a balance saddle and no other brand:rolleyes:
My horse is ballistic rather than holistic anyway;)

Holistic Horse... do not change your user name. I would say almost everyone that visits this site regularly is behind you on this matter. As for wintec...I really like the one used with my lease horse. It is lightweight, fits her well, and is very comfortable on our lengthy trail rides.
Best Wishes! and Happy Riding!:D

I bought my horse a wintec 500 with cair, at first he did not seem to like the movement but he soon settled to each, and I find its a really nice saddle for him and me.
As for usernames please don't change it, I think Lisa was going off at the deep end. I suppose with a name like bunny in mine I should be an expert on rabbits!!:D

I bought my horse a Wintec 500 when I bought him in June, as he was a little underweight, I've found it excellent, comfy and I do dressage in it aswell, fits him well, and the changeable gullets are excellent, just bear in mind with them though once the horse really starts to tone up its only the front that you can alter the rest of the saddle stays the same.
I love mine, and am keeping it as he is virtually there on the muscle and my saddle fitter said it fits him well, however I am going to purchase a nice leather dressage saddle in the new year as I would prefer a leather one now, and wish to have a dressage saddle.
Mine is taking well to being dumped around at shows, is quick and easy to clean and looks as close to leather as you can get def worth buying one.
Personally I dont like the balance saddles, my YO has one I just cant seem to get on with them, but thats not to say there is anything wrong with them, they just dont suit me.
Stick with your user name by the way, your not breaching any laws.
