View Full Version : Stirrups at the wrong angle

I've just gone back to using my Western saddle after a few weeks of being English obsessed(!!) and because it is basically brand new the stirrups lie parallel to the saddle, meaning that it is really hard work (and hurts my knees!!) to keep my feet in them.

Someone said they need to be professionally twisted, but someone else said I can do it myself - what does this mean and how do I do it?

Also - if I want to get new stirrups, how do I know what size, shape and style to get?

Tis' not the stirrups, but the fenders that are casuing a problem. When you put your saddle away at night, run a broomstick through each of the stirrups so that it lays correctly. That will train them to go the right way.

There's also a little device you can get to put between the fender and the stirrup, which allows the stirrup to hang at the right angle. They're all over ebay. I think they're called "stirrup turners" but also look for the phrase "save your knees" ;)

I have stirrup turners, they have saved my knees. I strongly recommend them. Just double check your stirrup length if you put them on, they added about an inch to my stirrups and I had to shorten them.
