Hi! I have a 16hh skewbald mare, would like to do a few local shows next year but I dont know what to enter!!! Use her just for hacking and having fun - so anything that involves too much precision work is out!!! She is an irish cob. Anyone have any ideas would be grateful to hear!!!:D

Coloured class? Have you got a picture? Depends on build etc. At local level, could be many classes you could do. Sorry, not much help!

send me the pic in an email and i'll stick it up for you.
any good show horse should be well schooled, working consistantly in a true outline, have as correct a conformation as possible.
for a coloured the markings should not make it look as though her conformation is funny, how you turn her out depends on the type she is, and what other classes also depends on the type.

hi coloured classes are your best bet and if you woud like any information on this please ask me as i have had a very successfull season showing a coloured cob this season at local level and plan to go county level next year.
You could also do some huter classes and working hunter if you can jump. Depending on the age of your horse you could do veteran or young horse classes!
Oh yer and make sure if you enter coloured classes that you enter the NON-TRADITIONAL as your horse is not the traditional type. x hope that is helpfull.

oh abi!!!! dont worry we all have our moments!!;):p  :D , if you figure it out tell me!!
danni, as far as im aware irish cobs count as traditionals, or at least they do for CHAPS,
miss megan.
PUK have reacently introduced coloured working hunter classes, and at local level you can get away with pretty much anything! me and abi are primarily M&M bods, but i also do SHP and SP and very occasionally show cobs (i produce them for other people), not sure if abi does any thing except M&M's though!
one rule of thumb is to have fun in what ever class you do and dont be discouraged if you dont get the place you think you deserve, local showing is like that, some of the judges are crap and dont know what they are doing. that is why i stick to county shows and the qualifiers.

..and even then, the judges can still be crap!! We should really start a thread on crap judging experiences... I'd have loads!
Only do M&Ms really. Had a show cob but didnt do that well so over winter we are transforming him into a small hunter to see how he does there! Hes Irish draught X Connemara, ID body but connie legs so didnt do well in good cob classes.
I really don't know what my user name is and I dont remember my log in details so will have to re-register!

Ive always thought cobby coloured horses are the best kind of horse for general showing :) definately what Id go for, they're so versatile. Obviously it depends on how schooled they are, but usually they can turn a hoof to coloured classes, hunter classes, cob classes, dressage, jumping, hack classes, equitation, show horse classes...
The possibilities are endless! :D

i only wanted to pm you to find out ** username on sr but i will probably send you a pm tommorrow as ive got alot of work to do tonight (slaps wrist bad faye go and do your technical report!!!)
totaly agree with the crap judges at county but they tend to be slightly less crap then the local. ive had funny judgeing at a HOYS qualifier before!!! you know its wrong when a NF with bald patches due to sweetitch and that struck off on the wrong leg beat things like castle comet! dont even get me started on the ones ive had at local level (youve got to start a young horse somewere). oh and ive been told by a judge (a connie judge no less) that stan cant possibly be a connie he is a sec d!!! i have papers to prove hes a connie and he looks nowt like a D
:(
good luck growing his mane out!! it will look like a bogbrush for a year or two, if you feed a supliment with alot of biotin in it the hair grows faster (my experiance with growing a mane out)

Thanks everyone!! Must shamefully admit we're not too hot on the old "well schooled" bit!!!!! We can walk and trot straight lines and circles, and stop/start where desired - but canter work is a different matter!!! Straight (ish) lines are best, we've not been too succesful at corners!!! And we do have a slight problem with transitions into canter, more often than not it just ends up an INCREDIBLY fast trot!!!!! With our cornering I must just say she is a VERY big horse to get round corners! Rode her to the tack shop just up the road the other day to show her to the lady there and she actually asked me if she had any Shire in her!!! Next will be tips on cantering please!!!! LOL!!!!:D

One bad judging experience!:
At a local show I admit, but we entered the M&M large in hand, only 3 in it. We were last because the judge hated blue eyes, the connie above us was not only a yearling looking 7yr old but was totally lame, not slightly but crippled! Needless to say theres no point in going under that judge again!
