Just wandering whether anything like this:

might help Pablo over the winter? Unfortunately we cannot get up to massage him everyday as the vet suggested over the winter (I don't drive - they are 20 min drive from home - and Stephen leaves home and gets back in the dark so the farmer checks them during the day in the winter as the track is unsafe to drive in the dark even if you could then find them on the moor). So we are massaging at weekends. I just wondered whether something like one of the magnatherapy strips sown into his rug might help the area in between massages - our aim being to relax the muscles and promote healing. The massager the vet has supplied us with is a magnatherapy one...

Just thought that I could sew one into his rug lining over the affected area and therefore help between massages?

Anyone have any experience of anything like this?

you're not supposed to leave the magnets on all the time - 12 hours is the maximum recommended.
we've got a stable rug with magnets - the magnets have a velcro-y kind of backing and the rug is like fuzzy felt, so they stick. it's very good, but the mare did sweat where the magnets were, quite a lot, if it was left on too long. once on a very cold day it was on under her normal night rug and the girls for got to take it off, and she was lathery where the magnets were in the morning.

Thanks Es, that is exactly the kind of info I was looking for :) Much easier asking on NR before looking it up for myself :o ;) Sounds like they may not be any good then as he is rugged 24/7 during the worst of the winter.
