Does anyone have any problems with sore feet after shoeing?

Dave was shod on Wednesday night and is still quite sore on his feet today, he does have really flat feet.

Does anyone else have this problem? Someone suggested cold shoeing him instead of hot shoeing?

Any advice would be appreciated :)

My girl used to have sore feet when her feet were flat too it is normal but if you are comcerned you could call your farrier and ask his advice.

The idea of cold shoeing rather than hot is something you should discuss with your farrier

be aware that when being cold shod it is harder for the farrier to get a perfect fit as he can't burn the base of the hoof level to the shoe so if you were to go down this route yu must be aware you would be likely to get stones trapped (I know I've gone through it)

If you're hot shoeing a flat footed horse there are two possibilities I can think of as to why he is still sore, he has thin soles and is feeling sore as the farrier has had to trim a littl sole away or that in some way he has been scorched or felt the burning whic would make him sore.

If it were me if he was still sore over the weekend I would call my farrier come monday

Do you mean he is always sore for a few days after being shod or is this the first time? If it's the first time ask the farrier to come back - he may have a hot nail (too close to the sensitive parts of the hoof).

If he's always sore after shoeing have you asked your farrier about it?
