I'm going to visit a barn where the jumping instructor has cavalry training and uses cavalry saddles. Does anyone have experience with this? And what do you think? Also, it sounds like the place might not be suited to a beginner such as myself, as there are separate instructors for dressage and for jumping. I haven't been there yet, the weather's been too wet. Hopefully will go this week, but I'm not sure about the cavalry jumping - I guess he's done tons of cross country and fox hunting and they said I'd learn to jump anything! Ack. I'm much to chicken for all that!

Doesn't sound like the type of place to me that caters for beginners.

How do you know unless you give it a go? As long as you're completely honest about your abilities and courage then they shouldn't overface you.
The fact that they have different instructors for dressage and jumping to me is a good thing! It probably means that they've specialised which means that you will probably get a less generic lesson than you would with someone who has done a bit of everything. I suppose that it depends what you're looking for though. I wouldn't let first appearances put you off, they may be working at a high level but it doesn't mean that they're not good with beginniners as well.
Why not go along and watch a few lessons first and see whether or not it is for you?
Good luck :D
