There's a chance we might be able to rent a small piece of land, only problem is there is quite a lot of bracken on it. Anyone any hints on the best way to get rid of it - do you just pull it out (seems to come out quite easily). Any advice anyone?

You could beat it down or pull it out but whatever you do you need to cover you mouth and nose as the spores on it can give you breathing problems

You will probably need to wear good gloves as well as it will shred your hands

The Wildlife Trust that lease an area of woodland near to the yard I'm on have regular Bracken Bashing days. From what I can tell they bash the roots repeatedly to kill it off, it's supposed to be more effective than digging it out. It does seem to have worked in the areas I ride through.

agree with Bebe - our environment officer advised the best way to get rid of it is to bash it - needs to be in the spring when the new growth is coming through and the "leaves" are starting to uncurl. No ggod doing it now as it's tough as old boots!! Continually cutting it will also help.
