I had a fab lesson last week, in all my time studying NVQ 2 at college we never learned to do Shoulder in or lateral work :D

However reading through other sources could someone explain to me what travers is in relation and the aid for riding it?

Any advice appreciated?

Travers is sometimes called quarters in.

Horse's shoulders on the track and quarters to the inside, horse looking along the track, bent around the inside leg . Ridden on three tracks like shoulder-in. Aids are not that different to s/in. Inside leg on, outside behind but the outside leg becomes more active (rather than the passive 'hold' in s/in). Inside shoulder and hip leading so that hips/shoulders stay square to the horse's shoulders.

Travers
This is a sideways movement with the horse's head to the wall and looking in the direction it is going. The horse makes four sets of hoof prints. The forehand remains on the track but the quarters are moved inwards.
