My mare is currently playing up when ridden (obv not by me!) and has started bucking and messing around-having spoken to her ex owners they said they used to have her back done every 6 months (somthing they failed to mention when sold). So we are looking for a back specialist based in the southwest-or that will travel but I can't seem to find one anywhere-or know where to go about looking , do any of you?
Also does anyone know of the approx. cost of a treatment- as I'm a bit skint right before christmas and 2 weeks before I'm due to give birth!!

Can't help much with finding anybody in your area but as for cost I pay £35 for my Mctimony Chiro who I have come every 6 months and that includes travel. When flyte had the physio, who was also a chiro, and had to have alot of treatment on his back for a number of problems it was still only £45 incl travel and she came from about 2 hours away. Neither of these take into account how long they are treating either. My chiro is usually about an hour (depending on how much he talks!!) and the pysio sessions were anything from an hour to three hours. When I got my first pony years ago and we couldn't find a back person for routine checks we phoned round the vets and they recommended ours and he's the chiro I still use today.

richard maxwell travels all over, and he charges £40, if he finds something wrong and nothing if he doesnt, however you would have to have a group of horses to get him to come out, we take our lot down when he is at the local rideing school. he is very very very good!

As far as I know Richard Maxwell has no qualifications to treat horses for back problems. I'm not going to pass judgement on this or whether it means he's any good or not, but you won't be able to get permission from your vet for him to treat (a legal requirement) and you won't be covered by insurance if anything goes wrong either.

I use a McTimoney Chiropractor for Bebe and have never been anything but happy with the treatment Bebe has (or hasn't, sometimes nothing is needed) received.

I use a fully qualified horse physio - she's excellent. If there's a group of at least 4 of you that want your horses treated, she only charges £25. And she spends ages on your horse.

Can't remember her name off hand, but could find out.

i used to use a MCtimony one, but he gave up on our arab and we came very close to haveing him put down due to a serious back problem, richard maxwell was a last resort and now the arab is comeing back into work
