As winter is approaching fast and I ride out at 7.30am I decided to ask for some full chaps for christmas and wondered if anyone had any comments to make, likes dislikes or recommendations. I dont want leather ones (too cowboy) or wax ones (not warm enough) but do want them to be waterproof.

I had a look in Robinsons catalogue and theres Harry Hall ones for £35 then Mountain Horse ones at £80. There must be a difference but I'm not sure what I should be looking for.

Also, whats the benefit of the ones where the bum is missing as opposed to those which come all the way up like normal trousers.

Not sure about the Mountain Horse and Harry Hall chaps but i have the Horseware (Rambo) ones which are fleece lined and lovely and warm!! The difference in chaps and overtrousers is that with chaps you have the seat of your jodhs for grip on the seat, you tend to slide around a bit in overtrousers

I have mountain horse full chaps, they are great! I didn't think they were that expensive tho, I think the musto ones are 80 and the mountain horse are around 35.

I have some fleeced lined Dublin Chaps, were around £35 and they are lovely, keep the wind and the rain out.

The full trouser type dont help with grip to seat, but bet would keep your bum warmer.

Me contemplating getting thermal underwear as my christmas pressie!!

MY OH has bought me the joules ones which look really nice, a bit like snowboarding trousers but I am concerned they will ride up my leg as theres no stirrup thing. Will have to see - dont get them till Santa delivers!

I have the Harry Hall dri riders, Itried them without the stirrup and they did ride up, they're fine with. They have a textured seat to them and I don't find that I slide around as you would in ordinary overtrousers, not the most comfortable to ride in because they don't stretch but do what I want - keep me dry so I can ride in all weathers.

I have the Mountain Horse ones - they only cost about 35 I think (definately not 80 though). I really like them - they keep my legs lovely & warm & the only issue I have with them is that my bum gets cold!!!

How big are these waterproof chaps over the thighs? The "Large" size of 1 sort I looked at would only accommodate a 22" thigh. Mine are 25"!!!

The joules ones fit me well although I needed a size large:eek:

Without getting too personal about the size of your thighs, would large size fit me?
