Last week I was reading (on this board) about people falling, wondering when I will fall. Well, today I did. First fall (thank you, thank you, taking a bow).
I was riding Rono, former race horse for 10 years - I found out later. I knew he was a bully toward other horses having seen him ridden by others. He tries to kick other horses as he gets near them. Normally you just have to keep him away and he does great.
Today he was feeling rather fiesty because it was a little warmer than normal I guess. He was VERY aggressive, actually going after other horses instead of just kinda trying to get at them to kick. I did a pretty good job keeping him under control. But there was a jumping group next to us in the arena and any time he got near he would get very excited.
Anyway, he was so keyed up, he ended up tripped pretty hard while we were trotting, I managed to stay on but lost a stirrup and then he took off. I pulled back, he made a sharp turn and I landed on my butt.
No real damage. I jammed my elbow a little because I leaned on it to break my fall. I got back on, but only trotted (no cantering). Rono was just too agitated today.
The instructor said it was a good one.
I've been smiling all evening.
