I think it depends on what shows you want to enter. Most local shows,no...but im not really sure.

im not sure where you are, but ive ridden gaby, my arab, in local western pleasure classes (we're not very good, but we try so hard lol). they do have breed specific shows though, and your horse has to be that breed to compete in them. so check the rules for the classes youd like to do, and it should say.

Is your horse a specific breed? From what it sounds like, she must be unregistered. This would prevent you from going to class "A" shows, which are normally breed specific shows. You could look into registering her as a buckskin, which is a color breed, and could therefore go to a buckskin/palomino show for just buckskins and palominos. However, if you don't want to go to the trouble, you can just take your young un to an open show circuit to get started. At open shows, you can show any breed in any class, without having to have papers to prove that your horse is any specific breed. Many people assume that quarter horses are the only breed that shows western pleasure, but arabians, morgans, draft horses, haflingers, walking horses, etc. They all have their own form of western pleasure.

You could also look into registering her as a sport horse, if she makes the qualifications. I'm in the process of registering my yearling as a pinto, so he'll be a double registered pinto/paint. This way I can take him to pinto shows as well. I don't think he would qualify for sport horse though, he's definitely on the stocky western big muscled fat butt end of the breed! :D
