Hi everyone - a happy new year to you all.
Thought some of you might be interested in a book I bought recently, its called Ride With Confidence and I have found it really interesting. Blurb on back cover reads - '
Has lack of confidence ever stopped you from riding? Do you ever wish you could overcome that feeling and reach your full potential?

With this reassuring but down to earth guide to dealing with riding nerves, you can. The practical techniques and advise given enable you to rebuild your confidence and become the rider you've always dreamed of being'

It has a foreword and top tips from Kelly Marks.

paperback, ISBN07153 1809 8

hope someone finds this helpful

That sounds good!
I must say I really like Kelly Mark's approach, My confidence has grown with my ability but I do know that in riding (as in life) you often get what you expect so I imagine that a good dose of positive thinking and some good tips on relaxing must go a long way to making everyone more confident.

Thanks Hoofhearted..might have to get a copy.

I got a book called 'Simple Steps to Riding Success' yesterday by Liz Morrison, which has alot of exercises to put into practise, which looks good (haven't started it yet though)

Hopefully, by combining what I learn from the books, and good old Bach Rescue Remedy, I may get back the confidence I had before I had a bad accident. :-)

I read a wonderful excerpt from Jane Savoie's book "It's Not Just About The Ribbons," in one of the horse magazines recently. Although it sounds like it's just about showing, the article I read was about overcoming nervousness. It was really the most helpful advice I ever read on the subject.

I bought this book over Christmas and I am 3/4 of way through. Think that it is a really good book, and have even tired the hypnotherpy!!

The good think is that it gives you lessons that you can take over into day to day life, I have read several books on nervousness and confidence and this is by far the best. Doesnt ridicule your thoughts or emotions, just gives you practical ideas on how to deal with situations and emotions. I bought mine off Amazon.

Definately worth adding to the collection. And for the instructors out there, there is also a section on teaching the nervous rider, with lesson plans, which as I rider, if my instructor was that understanding it would be fantastic.
