This is my only barrel picture i have on the comp. sry, but this is me on Blue(4yr. old QH) i trained her and took her into her first show! She did awesome, and I didnt think she would run in her first show, but she learned quick from watchin the others!:D

yeah I have an interest in barrel racing as well. I'm currently running in local rodeos with my dad's palomino Lucky, and I'm training my 7 year old paint in barrels as well. If you would like to see some pictures, you can email me at painted_dreams_87@yahoo.com and I'll show ya some. I plan on training my filly when she turns 3. I think it's a great event and I love doing it. glad to meet a fellow barrel racer :) your horse is gorgeous, by the way

Oh wow, a cremello! How pretty! I'm guessing she has blue eyes? Not totally sure, I couldn't tell from the pic! :D I also barrel race, been racing for approx. two years, but I've recently gotten more into showing my instructor's half-arabs and my paint gelding. I race on a big 16hh black-bay arabian named JB! We run on a small circuit nearby for ribbons and trophies and such. It's tons of fun! Nice to meet you!

Thought I'd just reply back again! A morgan/walker cross, sounds dreamy smooth! I also ran a pretty half-arab mare a few times, but she was mainly the little girl's barrel horse. Unfortunately she passed away recently. I do love cremellos though! I'm a sucker for blue eyes. Cowboy, my western show horse has dark dark blue eyes. :D He's such a looker! I'm looking forward to our show season this year, I got a new super slinky to wear at the All-Arab coming up. It's oh so exciting!

besides, running great I HAVE to look great and stand out in my run!:p
My colors are bright yellow and royal. I just used leopard on Blue, becauase she wouldnt look to good in yellow! I have a bright yellow shirt with royal fringe and all my tack is royal and yellow! It's looks awesome on the dark (almost black in the wintr) Morgan/Tennessee Walker that i run!

it's a rodeo event where there are three barrels set up in a clover leaf pattern that u have to run around as fast as you can. Thats a very short explanation, and it sounds stupid, but its awsome! I wonder if anyone else has some websites that can help you, but thats my shortened version of it!!
What do u do?

Oh my friend Jocelyn Britton used to run NBHA barrels in Mass! well she did last year and im pretty sure she is this coming show season. Im not sure which division she rides in, but she is 17 and you probably have seen her at some of the shows! She is pretty good! I dont know much about barrles, but I like to tag along and do barrels and
I own a Tennesee Walker and have had her for 8 years! she is totally my baby! I also have a Paint that just turned 20 months old! I am showing him halter this year and when hes older probably reining, dressage and jumping. I might do games with him too! but just thought I would mention I know someone who races on the MA curcit too!

Thats awesome I think I do know Jocelyn!!! Good luck with your 20 month old!
Horse Crazy101- Just have fun!! it's not a big deal so you can just relax and have fun. It shouldnt be untill you start running for money that u get your nerves up, but even then I prolly shouldnt cuz it is just a barrel run right? Well it's easy for me to just sit her and tell you, I know, but try rlly hard not get to worked up about it because your nerves go right through to your horse which will get them really nervous!
Have fun! And take it slow in the beginning, you dont have to run in your first show, I still sometimes don't on my trained barrel horses so I can teach them that not every time is a running time, and they have to listen to me to tell them to runn or walk!! I often do that in warm up runs which are nice to have! If you have the advantage of being able to sign up for a warm-up run, I would definetly do it, but i am very *tisk tisk* to the people who run there horses through warm-ups its just a time for you and your horse to relax and make sure they'll go through the gate!!!
HOPE YOU HAVE AN AWESOME TIMME!!!! Tell me how it goes!
Keep Writing Everyone, I'm Loving It!!!!

hey.since were talkin about our tack colors...what color do you guys have in mind for my horse...sorrel quarter horse mare, with a srtipe, star and snipe?i was thinkin hot pink.any suggestions?:D
lollielala
13th Jan 2005, 04:57 AM
hot pink would look good on her... I have a sorrel qh mare as well named Misty, her tack color is baby blue. But hot pink sounds good for her... I can't wait to hear about your first run. I agree with RodeoDreamer... don't be nervous, because that makes the horse balky at the gate. Good luck!

Hey,
Im 16 and I do a little bit of barrel racing, though just for fun, I love speed and my lease horse can turn corners lightning fast. She is an all black QH horse mare and is about 18 years old, she used to be a rodeo horse, and she also is a great jumper.

Juliaaaaaaaa!!!!
Arr you going to barrel race Valentino this seezon?
I shood take Scooter (hehe) in the western pleasure shows. I would, how do you say, "clean up". LoL.
Or maybe a backing up show where you and your horse back up all the way around the ring. He's good at backing up. Except I dont think there are shows like that. I should invent one.
No--- I'm not on crack--- if thats what your thinking.

I know a few that could help make your turns sharper.. when you get into you pocket on the barrel stop him and then go around the barrel do that on each barrel but when you go around the third one go around it but go the opposite way go toward the rail then wait there for 10 seconds ( that teaches them patience ) Also work on his hind end for instance back him up but DO NOT let him take one step forward always turn him to the right or left whichever barrel you go on first.. just switch it up dont make him bored then he wont want to do barrels... :) hope eveything works out for ya! I posted a pic on here b4 if you want to look at it..
