You could try taking a schooling whip out with you?
My mare is in a field on her own but another horse on the yard has to go through her field to get to his. As my mare is young and loves everyone she has a habit of trying to play with the horse and its owner as they walk through. The owner of the yard suggested taking the schooling whip out and showing it to my mare if she started to get a bit too playful and touch wood she doesn't bother them anymore.

Definetly drive the other horse away before attempting to remove your horse. A lot of accidents happen at gates because of the tight quarters. Don't get caught between the gate, electric or steel, and two 1200 lb horses, you will not win.
Go in, and well away from the gate. Halter your horse then use rythmic driving to shoo the other horse away before opening the gate.
Be careful and good luck.
