Hey! I'm getting ready to pull my horse's mane for his first show season ever! We're starting out in halter this season, and we'll be progressing to western pleasure next year. He'll be two in march. I'm really excited. Argh, but I'm so scared I'm gonna mess up his mane! Right now, it's really really, really long! About to his shoulders when it's not braided. It's full and thick, so I probably will have to cut and then pull it. But yes, when I do band manes, I prefer the two-three inch, with nice white bands. Black looks good on dark horses, but I always like to see the sorrels and the white bands! lol! :D

HAHA i just realized that you and I have talked on AIM before! (sn: strkmntstblsgirl) haha I have my 2 year old Black and White Paint as well that I am showing for the first time this year! Maybe we will see eachother at the World show:p
Anyways! hows the baby doing? Also, are you pulling or thinning? I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO! haha Zip has a THICK mane and its all pretty much one length so i dont think that just pulling would do much good. I was thinking about thinning it from the back and just using a wire-wrapped razor to "tease" it so it looks natural! AHH I dont know yet though! Our first show is in May... what about yours? Also. I cant remember what state you are from. But do you full Body clip? or what? hehe sorry just thought I would ask someone in the same boat as me so im not just the loser-loner!

Ooo Zip_n_prin, if I could AFFORD the world show!!! I'm still working on buying his official paint papers with some moola I've been raising! Not to mention tobianos normally have a tough time in the halter ring at the world cuz the overos are so popular. I read somewhere (I think it was horse illustrated or horse&rider) that you rarely see the tobys win at the super elite shows! I was like NO FAIR! It's even PROVEN genetically and scientifically that toby's are calmer and more docile than overo paint horses! Nothing against overos, love em to death and think they're gorgeous, just gotta stick up for my toby! :D

Kristen. Bear and Zip WILL kick major butt at the world show, (when they go;)), but our boys are beautiful, and if the judges dont see that, they should have their card taken away:D
Plus, thats what the Tobiano Color Class is for!!
By the way, is that run like the halter class? or do you just stand in the line up (not have to jog off?)

I would assume it's just like the halter class. I didn't even know they had color divisions now! They don't do that at the local shows! No fair! LOL! :D And ditto, if the judge doesn't like my boo-bear, or your zip, he can kiss their spotted behinds! :p World show, dude...That would rock! They have the youth world's as well! Hey are you in AjPHA? I've gotta renew my membership...ARGH I need to renew USEF, AHA, AjPHA, PHA, ack! I'm gonna die! That's a lotta money! Oh well, I'll just bribe mom with a free "I'll vacuum the whole house and organize all my old clothes so you can give them to charity, and I'll do all the laundry so please please please let me borrow your credit card!" LOL! Ack, gotta go, test study time for Espanol! (ARGH I DUN WANNA!) TTYL - Kristen

Yah they have one for Overos and Tobianos! I think its a good place to show off your paints colors! hehe Are you showing at APHA shows this year? or just local/open with Bear? Yes I am an AjPHA member! I just renewed my membership after christmas so I am waiting for my new card and rule book! They said "it takes 4-6 weeks to process so you should recieve by the end of Jan. or the begining of Feb.' GRR haha how long does it take to print out a card? lol! I guess Im just ranting! Because I can still go online and use my number and PIN to look up stuff, just dont have my new card! Grr. I also need to renew several memberships, Including the one to my local Paint Horse Club, which are sponsoring the shows that I want year-end points for! hehe The clostest APHA show is 3 hours away from me and the farthest is 5 hours!! But I have to show under 14 judges to be able to get Year End points! And I really wanna rack up Zips points!! hehe Are you going to show Bear in the Pinto shows too? I havent decided if its going to be worth it! I think for this year, 5 shows will be enough for Zippys baby mind to handle! hehe Talk to you soon

Well, seeing as I don't officially own his papers yet, I probably won't be able to show him at the official paint shows at the complex this year, but hopefully by next year I'll have them so I can start competing in the three year old western pleasure classes. The pinto shows are a definite yes, I'm really looking forward to showing him at those shows. They're supposed to be low key with a smaller sized turn out, they're hoping to grow, which is why we got semi-recruited into the show ring by a lady coming around and asking which of the colored horses were eligible as pintos and such. This year bear will probably do at least eight shows with a local open circuit to get him used to being patient while being tied, being patient in the ring, etc. I found some good articles about grooming tips in my older magazines, so I've been going over those as well. Have you gotten your show halter yet? Oh! You need to look in Rod's Western Wear's catalog! They have a girl showing halter with a black show halter and a black and white paint, with this awesome black and silver get-up on. She looks like a bazillion bucks! I thought about you cuz Zip is darker than my baby, whom I'll be showing in purple. I gotta start doing some conditioning exercises so he'll start getting a little more muscle on him before the first show. Hopefully we'll do well! :D Talk to ya soon! - Kristen
