Has anyone found any benefits from using a fulmer snaffle. I have heard that they are quite good with green or young horses to aid steering problems.

I always used one on young, green horses to help with steering. Without the attachments though.
They were very "fashionable " in the 60's.

When i got my boy as a 3 year old i used a fulmer snaffle on him coz my instructor favoured them with young horses. it did seem to help a bit with steering but we soon moved onto a different bit. we also tried one on my welshie when she was being a madam and not listening to anything you asked her! had absolutely no effect on her steering! :)

My horse was ridden in a fulmar snaffle with her previous owner but I never really liked it. It was easy for her to lean on and though it helped with steering, it just masked a problem as she would never truely bend. Needless to say I soon changed to another bit.

I ride Bailey in a french link fulmer,It helps alot with getting him to fetch his head round,he tends to gawp at everything and in a normal snaffle he will ignore you and set his neck, the fulmer helps to bring his head round, especailly when you have the loops on and this keeps the bit stable, its also supposed to give poll pressure but this is always debated,i find the french link suits his mouth shape.
Ive tried him in various bits and find he is definately easier to steer in this bit.

Thanks for all your replies. My horse is already in a french link but as she is always gorking and googling about and she is still quite green. I think from all your advise I will give a french link fulmar a go.
