I wanna know too, as I have a few digital videos that I wouldn't have a clue on how to put on the net!

To go from an analog format (video tape) to a digital format takes hardware that can handle it. For example, we have a TV card on one of the computers which will be able to take in or put out video.

If you don't have such hardware and you have a video that you'd like to get digitalized, you may be able to find a buddy or work acquaintance or some such who does. If not, the only other option is probably to pay to have it done (might actually be cheaper to buy the TV card!)

A video which is already in digital format simply needs to be uploaded to somewhere so that people can access it. You can get one of the multitudinous free accounts somewhere and use their website-building software to upload your movie and to get the web address (URL) for it.

DreamWeaver will allow you to build your own website. Whilst there is a plug in that gives you some video capability, I don't think it's a video editor as such but I really dont' know the software well enough to say with confidence. Unless you already have DreamWeaver, though, I wouldn't buy it - you should be able to do what you need with a freebie :).

In addition to the hardware Galadriel mentioned, you'll probably need some kind of video editing software - but again, you can download some of those for free. I typed "video edit free" into google and it popped up a whole host of bits and bobs, including Window's MovieMaker (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/moviemaker2.mspx).

You should be able to spot whether you've got a video card, as it'll have brightly coloured sockets. I think you'll have white, yellow and red (if not I think you can buy them for about £15, but I might be looking at the wrong thing :o). Once you can get the video into your computer, MovieMaker (or equivalent) should allow you to edit the video ready to be uploaded.

Hope that helps :)

You actually don't need to build a whole website. All you have to do is upload the one file. For example, when I'm posting images here, I include a link to the image that's on my site. That image may be *in* a web page, but all I'm really grabbing is the image itself. IE, this image:

is located at:

So. If you can get web space somewhere, you can simply upload--copy--your movie to that site. You'll then get a URL containing that filename (http://www.afreeserver.com/your_acct/filename.avi or some such) and just give that URL to people. They can then download the movie to their computer, and play it.

thanks again guys. I already have a copy of dreamweaver - I just thought it might assist me in uploading the movie to the web. I'll try to upload the movie onto my FreeWebs site. Will let you know how I go (so ya'll can look at me falling off my old stock horse! Yay!!).

If you do find a free site that will let you upload video clips, please let me know. I've loked everywhere for a site that will host video clips of mine, but with no avail.

I've found www.pixparty.com

They do free video hosting, yay!! :D

Could someone please try and view this link? http://pixparty.com/pixparty.com%5Fnon%5Fssl/kyanya/index.asp?ptype=v&videoid=1528

It's a video I uploaded. I can't view it myself, but I hope the problem might be at my end, and hopefully other people can view it.
