This is the original Dreamhorse.com ad for Mohawk, the horse I am thinking to get for my daughter.

Do you think it's proper to contact the old owner and ask her questions before purchasing the horse. I also was thinking of doing that with Dubie because I found his original ad on another website. I feel kinda funny about that because I know what the breeder originally paid for each horse. That's her business, so I would expect a markup for her to make money.

Mohawks ad: http://www.dreamhorse.com/id_search.php3

Put in ad id 535718, the page won't let me transfer his ad.

This is Dubies ad: http://www.twhsalecentral.com/detail.cfm?horseid=867

So should I contact old owners....Mohawks is the most important since he will carrry precious cargo!:)

I am getting more and more confused now!
I thought Dubie was the horse that has no muscle tone and stood in a stall for too long?

Anyway: Yes, I think it would be great to get some feedback from previous owners!

Don't be confused:D

They both are. Mohawk just happens to be in that situation too.

I pick winners huh?:)

Can't think of any reason why you shouldn't call/write and ask the old owners about their horses. Considering they don't need to sell the horses any longer, then they may be more open and honest than the dealer would be!!

Let us know! :)

I dodged a bullet a few years back while researching pony breeds with the view to buying. I love the Fjords and I was in contact via the 'net with a breeder here in NY, there aren't many!

An ad came up at another barn and I went to see and rode a lovely gelding, he was perfect in the arena and I had a deposit on him. He was being sold without his papers. There was some talk by the agent selling him that the owners had a problem with their young daughter being run away with out on the trails, but she assured me that an adult rider would have no problem, perhaps switch to a Kimberwick bit.

I called the breeder to ask about this particular horse and it turned out she was the original owner and had donated him to an equine college program for re-schooling, he was a confirmed chronic bolter and if you managed to hang on OK but if you came off, he was still heading for the barn!! College had sold him to raise cash.

So I didn't buy him and went and looked at Haflingers instead, bolting is something I don't want to live with.

Thanks Everybody....I was really feeling funny about calling the old owners. I felt like I was going to be sneaking around. But I guess I shouldn't when it comes to buying such an animal as a horse. This is some serious stuff:D

I am certainly going to look into both horses I am looking into.

I think it would be a good idea to talk to the previous owners.

Confused! The ad I got when I put that number in came up with a horse called Pogo... am I missing something?

The breeder that bought the horse renamed it and is selling it now to Melissa.
