lmao! Some people are soooooo stupid! I bet their definition of a "Proper Horse" is a silly, wrung out, spooky, silly, worried ned, that can't live out, eats a bag of feed a week, and needs lungeing before riding.

i proceeded to tell her something along the lines of ...

'and who exactly would she be a *companion* for?!'

'exmoors aren't designed for children, anyway. And, what horse is?!'

stupid stupid people!

she then said 'ooh yeah, i love those little natives, they're so cute, but obviously i can't have one because you can't really ride them'

excuse me?!

lol I think you should print off some photos of Natives being ridden, competing and winning - then show them to her (while trying not to look too smug ;))

we have people like that at the yard I go to.

I love fat, hairy, coloured horses who are really naughty and have been mistreated as it is a challenge but whilst telling people what I am trying to find in a loan they look down at me and say you want somthing to win. Whilst answering ' I dont really care if I cant ride just seeing a horse start to trust people is enough to last me a lifetime'. Lets just say they dont speak to me much.

Alot of people just come down and see there horses once a month then there on full livery and given to the YO to ride. Obviously noone has told them what it is like to have a bond with a horse.

Makes me mad the way people can be.

Why, nowadays almost 99 out of 100 people buy a horse 'coz they wanna win'? Why, what's so important about winning. You win a competition on sunday, by Monday everyone will have forgotten you. If you want to win for God's sake win something more important than a competition that you have won by your horse's talent. Such people's confidence must be at such a low ebb that they think people will sit up and take notice of them if they win at a showjumping/dressage competition. Yes, winning is really good, a fantastic ego boost but that's all. If beating other people in an equestrian competition is that important to your moral, then you must have a very low ego!!!! I like to win on my own merits and talent not by the often stessful situations such as competitions etc can put on a horse.

'just because you arn't capable of 'really riding' them, doesn't mean i'm not either'.

anyone reasonably competent can get a tune out of a schooled warmblood, it takes a bit more to get one out of an exmoor!

maybe these people ARE jealous because their mindframe just wont allow them to 'let go' of the warmbloods :D (or, in that particular case, a very young, big mare who has taken to rearing ...)

:D evil thoughts :D Let her meet BRAMBLE!!!

Then she'll realise that natives are a little bit more than a child's pony.

hehe, angel is not quite as exciting as bramble :D in fact angel is a very nice, easygoing sedate pony - i think this is what gets these people! they cant bear seeing anyone who has fun :)

P.S

I have a few of those ladies at the yard I am now, they don't openly criticise, just tell me she's unsuitable for this and unsuitable for that, the fact that she holds a better outline on the lunge and longreins than her 17hh ISH 4YO who you can't get near in the stable he's so bad mannored, oh well that's not possible!

Same as it's not possible for me to compete her or for David to ride her and she should be backed and working hard or she should be untouched.

In my experience people only criticise when they are either, jealous, nervous, incapable or so boring they HAVE to find something to do.

Maybe you should join the adults who ride ponies club and do a few comps with them etc.

i have nothing i could compete in - apart from 'handy pony' (we can open/close various gates at the yard whilst riding now!!!)maybe, but that doesnt seem to exist round here.

I rode a little 12.2hh Welsh (Section B) across Bodmin Moor along with some other people on natives, mainly New Forests and Welsh Cobs. They knew exactly where to go and where to avoid the bogs because we didn't. I felt safe on Smokey and trusted him to get us back to where we were staying. The thoroughbred the only man in the party was riding, was pretty good too. Glad I wasn't on a big dumb warmblood.:D

First horse a complete disaster. TB x Arab. Second horse Cob. He is worth his weight in Gold. Rephrase that, worth his weight in Diamonds. I have a Shetland for my daughter as well and she is a complete gem. What got me b****y angry last year was at local shows when I took my 7 year old daughter and shetland into show classes. I went up to the judges and they scoffed about my Shetland and asked if she was good or naughty. I have heard people call Shetlands Sh***y Shetlands but I swear my daughters pony is one in a million. Jaz can do anything with her and she has never bitten, kicked or knocked her over. When I go into these classes I sometimes I feel as though I am wasting my time when I have a spruced up ribboned pony at our side. But then I remember how much fun we have with our natives. I just wish one day a judge would look at a Shetland and think of it as a show pony. In the mean time I will enter my daughter and pony into fancy dress and take the trophy home. ;)

If she wants to go round struggling with a rearing warmblood, that's fine, as it means there are all the more natives around for us pony people. Imagine if everyone liked natives - there wouldn't be any left! So we should be thankful that some people think the reason for riding is to try and sit as many bucks on a really big horse as possible, while also trying to win lots of competitions! We can all sit smuggly with our pretty little ponies, and be very happy!

Ponies useless???? Uhhh????

So far Spirit has done dressage, cross-country, show jumping, working hunter, many showing classes and been hunting. Aswell as hacking and schooling. I can leave him in the field for a week or more doing nothing and not worry about being thrown off when I ride him again. He's had kids as young as 2 ride him as well as a nervous friend who hadn't ridden for 15 years and she jumped him.
Spirit would boot them too if they spoke to him like that!

Ignore them they don't know what they're talking about!

Words fail me, what is she on about ?

Why is there this fascination with trying to get all riders riding the same horses and doing the same things ?

I was at a party on New Years Eve with some other people who have horses (very rare in my social circle !). They all asked me what I did with Zizzi, didn't think the answer "I ride her" was totally appreciated but hey who cares.

When I bought Zizzi (15.2 ID/Conn) I was on a severe diet and had lost about 2 stone so that I could buy a pony if I wanted, I've always had loads of fun on ponies.

Poor Bramble then if an Icy can't hold a man what's a little new forest doing trying it :p These people need a life really, i can't wait till I can wipe the smiles off their faces when I take my two out and about. That will be fun :D
