Wondered if anyone can help because I am getting a little distraught. I am currently trying to get rid of the scabs off Captains legs. (Long story been told Mud Fever, Mites, Cracked heels and greasy heels???) Anyway got some Hibiscrub and watered it down with warm water. Got a sponge to soak onto legs and never thought he would give me grief. Honestly thought he would stand there munching on his hay. But oh no he does not stand still and will not stand still. At first I was worried and moved out of the way of his bottom as he plowed me over but then I started to growl at him and stand my ground. I keep out my elbow and jab it into his tummy when he starts moving my way but this isn't working either. A friend held him for me the other day and that was successful either. I tried a hose on his legs and he jumped. :(

How can I make him stand still I am trying desperately to sort his legs out. Not having much success and it is upsetting me as I want to give him clean problem free legs.

Hellllooooo!!

Have you tried having someone hold one of his front legs up while you wash the rest? If it's a fear issue though that won't work and you will have to gradually get him used to having it done. Do you think it's painful and that's why he won't stand still?

It may be a fear issue as his owner says he has had this for all his life!! Anyway had a break through on Monday. I decided not to start on the same leg and left it till last as this front leg is the worst. Did one front leg and one back leg without any grief what so ever. Took it very slowly with very little water on sponge at first and then as he settled put more water on sponge. Got to last back leg and he started to move around. Instead of getting all stressed and bolshy back I talked to him and tickled his bottom for him. As I hit his tickly spot I carried on washing his leg and he didn't mind. Felt like I was Houdeneee though. Hands all over the place. Bum up head down. What a sight
