Bringing a horse into Barrel racing

Last year at autumn and I's first 4H show we did all the game classes which included barrel racing and we had a BLAST! so i plan on doing some gymkanhas and doing barrel racing. however even though autumn is blazing fast...his turns are not so sharp! what is a nice way to intoduce the sharper turns?

There are various books available on this but here my tupance worth, I was taught to place cones or old tyres round the barrel to give the horse the line that you want them to run around, then starting very slowly pratice getting the pattern correct, at each gait when you can get it right 100% of the time move up a gear, once your horse knows what hes being asked to do he will be more willing to make the turns.

That is excellent advice. There are many books out there and cones do help. I barrel race for fun and your right it IS a blast!! :)
