my friend is riding a horse for her owner and the horse is very stubborn. the horse needs schooling, so me and my friend rode up in the school but Molly (the horse) wouldn't move faye urged her on but Molly wouldn't have any of it. my friend was driven to using the whip (wich she doesn't like using) and Molly wouldn't have any of it

does anyone have any advice on what we could do???

Is this just with you she is like this or is this the same with the owner, if it is just with you guys it could be she is feeling insecure, also has she dne much schoolwork if not and you are asking her to and not her owner this could make her insecure too and cause her to be very backwards, just a thought

If she's great on hacs I would be inclined to school her while she's out, very sly way of doing it but it does work.

Well it depends what you want to achieve, leg yield, shoulder in ect can all be done on the trail, you just have to be a little more imaginative than when in the school one of my fielleis is much the same and gets most of her schooling while out as she switches off in the school

What are you schooling her for then? Sorry I assumed it was dressage or something along those lines, the reason she is faster out is probably because she enjoys it more you will eally have to make life in the school very fun if you want her to show any interest while in there.

No you're not, the thing is that you can o most schooling out on a hack, if you want the horse to collect you can ask out and in the school, same with lengthening etc not all horses have to go in the school especially if they are not cometing, i would prefer to take mine out and achieve something than have us both get frustrated in the school. what is it that she wants to get from the schooling? do you know? If it's just more response in the school you will be hard pushed to get it, if you want to try some more interensting things in the school look at Le Trec or Western types of exercises involving obstacles and poles etc that may help

may have to reply tomorrow now. :)

Silly mare (you!) I needed to get my sleep had two very long manes to pull today

If she is wanting a more responsive mare if your friend was to pick up a schooling book, lik dressage basics etc that may make hacks and possibly school work a little more interesting for her. If she is wanting collection etc this can also be achieved out, but you may want to find a book more focussed on this. If she just thinks school work is needed ut the horse doesn't show and is well mannered everywhere and is just a bit slow in the school try some gymkhana, western or Le Trec activities with her (you'll find some on the web) and she may becoame more interested because being in the school becomes fun
