just have to share :D

angel was vaccinated again today. normally, the moment needles come into play or vision, the little madame goes berserk. it has happened that numerous strong helpers were required to pin down the little pony

so today, a new vet (i presume so anyway, hadnt met her before) arrived for the vaccination. she came, fed her some polos, listened to her heart etc., went round the corner to get the needle ready (out of angel's sight!). came back, out comes another polo, angel still blissfully unaware of what is about to happen ...

next thing i know, she had been vaccinated. no fuss whatsoever!!! she didnt seem to notice anything but the polos :D

Rupert is the same about needles, but we too have a nice sympathetic vet now you gives him lots of fuss and keeps the needle out of his sight and it is all very easy and stressfree - much better than the 3 men needed to hold him down if he saw a needle

My Anglo Arab mare is very sensitive but never bothered when the young female vet gave her a pat and then popped the needle in.

The following year it was a bossy male vet who insisted she have a bridle on "in case she messed about" and then held her head firmly while he tried to inject her. Result, normaly gentle horse rearing and making a fuss, but I think that's typical arab, if they want to do it they will but heaven help you if you try to force them into anything!

To be honest it sounds like me with needles apart from a cash bribe normaly works and sounds beeter for me than polos

the only difference was that today's vet made doubly sure that angel did not see the needle or what was going on (she went round the corner to get it ready and hid it when she came back in the stable). overall, a very stressfree experience and angel wasn't even miffed off afterwards (quite the contrary, she was merrily frsiking the vet for more polos ...)

Just had Rio done, like yours she turns into 500kg of dangerous muscle at injection time, but it's only when the needle goes in that she actually flips. After one false start with the twitch flying skyward we got set again, only for the vet to tell me he'd already done it, nobody had time to react. To say I was grateful for his skill and speed is an understatement and I told him so!

It's not for want of trying, I can jab Rio in the neck with biros etc till the cows come home and she's not bothered, but you just can't train for a needle going in. It's looks like it's one of those things you have to learn to live with:(

Zizzi was sedated when she had some dental work done - one of the reasons she failed the 1st vetting. Vet and the YO where she was then and who I bought her from apparently were both sent flying. When her bloods were taken at the 2nd vetting absolutely no fuss at all, this was a different vet, he distracted her with a bowl of chaff and it was all over in a few seconds. YO was amazed.

I think food is rapidly becoming a miracle of vet care :D

Lol, food can accomplish many things!! :D

You reminded me of Drummers jabs, he was very good and only jumped a bit but then the vet went to pat him, he backed into the coner of his stable looking suspiciously at the offered hand, lol!
