....my friends horse!

I am so used to Drummer, that yesterday when I got on my friends 17hh ex eventer (brave aren't I?!? ) I was useless! :(

It felt very high, lol! I was ok in walk but TROT! Oh my god, I was all over the place. I couldn't rise at all but at least I could sit it. When I rose I felt all unbalanced and my legs shot forwards! I did try a small canter but ..... :o perhaps not, lol! The really wierd thing was being able to feel his sides, normaly my ankles are in fresh air.

Just want to re-iterate how much I LOVE my pony! On tuesday I had had him a whole year! Hopefully many more to come! :D

the length of stride would really throw you and make you feel very unbalanced.

pony bouncy strides are so different. I used to ride a 17hh and when I switched to a 15hh cob it felt very odd!!

lol Drummer's mum I have the same problem, :D Don't have my own (boo hoo I want I want :( ) but I'm just a munchkin so usually get given either cheeky ponies (luv em), or fine araby/TBy types (who usually try to kill me).

Where I ride currently I am alternating between a fine type mare, who I ride until neither of our nerves can stand it, and a lovely big clydesdale X boy. The problem riding the boy is that he is about 17hh and feels two feet wide - my little legs barely reach below the saddle flaps. My OH wets himself laughing at me on him - he dosn't think the horse knows I'm there!

Like you, rising to trot is out, physically cant stretch myself any further, so developing a really good sitting trot. There are plus points though, bucks are so slow you have lots of time to get balanced before the next one - and on the rare occasions he does spook it still feels like most of him is underneath you, whereas I find ponies sometimes sort of disappear.

I think it's great to get the feel of lots of different horses, but think when I finally pluck up the courage to buy my own, it won't be a big yin :D

I am exactly the same. I can ride Spirit fine but I'm hopeless if I get on anyone else's. No panic - just stick to what you know and what you're good at! You just get so used to your own it makes it difficult to change.

that's the trouble with having your own and not riding anything else - you do get into a rut.

lol! :D I was trying horses with a friend a few weeks ago. I got on a gorgeous piebald cob and just couldn't post to his trot :o He must have thought, "What the hell is that useless person doing?!"

I feel the same way since I have had Captain I am not bothered about riding anything else. My friend has a cob and a tb x arab who need taking out for a blast. She is always asking me to take them out but I don't have the urge to do that anymore. I have total confidence in my baby and I don't want to spoil my confidence on something that may not be so forgiving.
