Ive been searching about Summer Camp jobs in the USA (see my other thread) and found this pic. What are the headcollars the horses are wearing? Ive never seen anything like them before!

I don't know, but it all looks very space age! That lorry  And the horses all look nearly the same, and the head collars, weird! :D

They're the headcollars a lot of Polo riders use - i guess they originate in Argentina. Not sure why they're designed like that but that's where i've seen them

I suppose you get more of a head down effect in one of those, the bit that goes across the forehead is there instead of the cheek pieces of an ordinary halter.

Sophini - you're right - our yard use this type all the time (except for on the livery horses) - and my YO is an ex-polo player/trainer from Argentina. He finds he has more control especially over youngsters as they cannot lean against the webbing of a traditional collar, and the pressure is applied to both nose and poll when needed, and not at all when not needed. They are made out of plaited leather, and get used for everything from lunging to leading.
I thought they looked a bit odd at first, but then realsied how well they worked.

They look horribly low on the nose - putting pressure down there would be horrible for the horse - really restrict the breathing

;) ;) we tend to just use chin hairs in our establishment! ;) take them by the hairs of their chinny, chin, chin and get them to come with you! :D :D

With my shetland that only works if he wants to go in the same direction as me :D Otherwise he just puts his head down & goes....
