Is there a FAQ for inserting photo's on posts? I am talking VERY basic :o . I use windows picture viewer to store my photos. The smallest I can get my photos is 80KB, which is what I do when I email them. Do I need a different program to be able to make smaller pictures? I think I have an Adobe photoshop CD around somewhere. I am totally clueless after spending the last hour searching for information and fiddling with the different programs on my computer!

you can use paint to make your pictures smaller.

use the tool on the side that looks like a square it should be at the top of the toolbar to select your picture (click and drag) once you have done that you can make your picture the size you want. now u will probably have a white area around the pic which will be the canvas click on this and drag it the same size as you photo by drag the corner

Ok, got a cropped photo that is 44KB... lets see what happens
This is the message I got:
File Too Large. Limits are 500 x 500. Your file is 640 x 480.
So, I have a cropped photo that at least does not go over the KB limit, but it is still to large- what now?? (and thanks for your patience!)

Ok, here is another try after I got rid of the white canvas (which I forgot to do the first time).

Well done!
There is still a section of white at the top though - if you cropped this is in the future, it would mean you can get more photo in the picture. But if that's confusing ignore me - it doesn't make much sense!

I should have done another one right away- I am having trouble figuring it out again! Here are my steps for future reference of myself and others:
1. open picture and email it to myself so I can reduce it in size (is there a better way to reduce it in size? this brings it to 80KB from 365KB)2. save it to the desktop so I can find it again
3. open paint, click on 'edit', then click on 'paste from'
4. when 'browse' comes up, find desktop and double click on the picture. That will insert it into the paint program
5. "use the tool on the side that looks like a square it should be at the top of the toolbar to crop your picture (click and drag)...[to the] size you want."
6. :o Now I am lost... I can put a square around the part I want, but I cannot get rid of the rest of the picture unless I select it piece by piece and hit delete, so that is what I do :o
7. Now there is a white area around the pic which will be the canvas.Click on this and drag it [to] the same size as your photo by dragging the corner up to meet the photo.
8. Save it back to the desktop and check that it is the right size.
9. Open a post, go down to manage attachments and click on it,
browse to find the cropped photo and click on upload.
10. feel proud to have finally 'gotten with the program'!
Oh Yah! :D by the way- note the "tick" on the photo... I figured out how to add a drawing on the photo, but not how to get rid of it! We are having a massive tick problem right now, so hence the bug-art :)

When you get to the part where you're resizing the photo, you can select the part of the photo yo want in the same way (with the box tool) and then right-click in the box you have created. Select 'Copy'. Then open up a new 'Paint' window, and go to 'Edit' (on the toolbar at the top) and then 'Paste'. You should then have the section you want on its own.
Also, if you want to downsize a whole photo, this is possible. Have the photo open in paint, and go to 'Image' on the toolbar at the top and then select 'Stretch/Skew'. In the box that opens, you will need to change the values in the first 'Stretch' section. If you change the numbers to less than 100%, the photo will decrease in size, and if it's more than 100% it will get larger. Make sure you out the same value in both the horizontal and vertical sections though.

I see how easy it is to reduce the whole photo- thanks! I am going to try it from the original size (without going through my mail program first), and then again shrinking it first before pasting in paint.
Yoo hoo! I am feeling the joy of acomplishment- thank you for your help! Is it possible to put in photos on the message, and then write again after the photos? In other words, have text-photo-text in the layout?

This is not possible when you are attaching photos in the way you are currently doing so.
However, if you attach photos through uploading them to a website (www.photobucket.com is a good one for storing photos on) and then linking them to here, you can have picture-text-picture-text etc.
