......boy do I ache :D
Went to David Deptfords yesterday for a lesson, it was a really good lesson, we worked on flying changes and speeding up our back ups and spins.
Qaboos was a mad thing on thursday when I rode but yesterday he was really chilled out, but that meant that I had to work exta hard. He used to do OK flying changes but he kind of stoped trying so we worked alot on that yesterday, we tried one method which didn't really work so then we tried another, which again didn't help, on to the third - yeah, we got a nice tidy change, so now I know how to get it we just need to practice, alot.
Interesting though, David said that he never teaches any of his horses simple changes (what I had been doing as his flying wasn't up to use in comp) as it encourages them to break pace or only part change.
Then we got on to speeding up the back up, and when I showed david before we did anything (he said that acctually its really not that slow its just he takes quite big steps rather than 'shuffling' under hinself, but we still did a bit about making it faster but David said there wasn't much to do with it really :D .
Then we got on to spins, Qaboos turns on the haunches OK but atfer about 1/2-3/4 of a turn tries to walk out of the spin and its also not to quick.
David got me to ask him to spin from the leg only and every time he moved forward just to back him to where we were and carry on which really helped and then also got my requests better timed with Qaboos' leg movements to get the spin quicker, In the end David got on him to show me what he meant, and wow the difference was great when I got back on (basically I need to be much firmer with my aids) hes now spinning really well to the right and alot better to the left (but theres still some more work to be done there)
But all this was in an hour and a half (a bloomin' long time when your horse is like a slug!!) so today I am really achey, my back hurts, my thighs hurt, even my brain hurts :D
So today I just took Qaboos for a gentle hack, which he really seemed to enjoy.
