i read in the 'Your horse magazine' about a lady hows stirrups the metal part broke i was horrified to hear that as i have exactly the same type (quick relase it has an elastic part on the outside of the foot), a closer inspection of mine showed that my metal part was bending badly and was all out of shape, after owning them 2 years, i taken advice when buying them, and was advised to get them, i have just found out they are only suitable for children and not for hard work, that puts strain on them. So today i went out and bought myself a pair of bent leg one, ones made for adults!

can't always believe what you hear!!

a family friends' daughter has 3 ponies which i looked after for a few weeks last summer while they were on holiday and one of the ponies is big enough for me to ride so i exercised it every day while my cousin exercised the smaller ponies and the english saddle for the one i rode had these saftey stirrups with the elastic on the side but my feet were literally squashed in them i much prefer the bent iron ones for adults...they were also bent so i decided to either ride bareback or just to remove the stirrups formt he saddle.

Yes I heard that using safety stirrups does put a lot of strain on them and eventually they can break. Use the bent leg irons or another type of safety stirrup (the ones with rubber - I think from Stübben - will release your foor in the even of you being dragged I think).

I hate peacock stirrups, they are the worst invention on this Earth, If I could put something into room 101 it would be them, words don't even go there! My blood pressure's up now.
