:) Hi everyone I have just joined this brill sight and wanted to introduce myself, I am tina and live in Birmingham I am 34 years old and have loved horses since I was seven.

I have recently bort a 15 hh welsh section d cob gelding bay in colour named max who is 14 years old. Max is my second horse my first horse was a two year old welsh section d called Danny I instently fell in love with him and we had a brill bond I learnt everything from scratch with danny I was shown how to longrain and lungch and I trained him as much as I could I backed him and he was fantastick the slitist tuch of the rains and he done wate I wanted.

The truble started when I bort a second hand sadle and after a few times of using it danny threw me of and I broke a rib so I was unable to get on him again for four weeks and even then I was too scared to as I am a complete novice rider.

In the end I was perswaded to sell him on and I broke my hart I was depressed for many months and couldent aford to by another horse at the time. Then two weeks ago I bort Max and he was sold with tack I let him settle in for a few days and with help tacked him up and tryed to ride but he threw me of no broken rib this time just a very sore bottom and I was gutted I had tryed him out before I got him and he was a gentle plodder. I phoned the girl who sold him to me and explained she said it must be the sadle and that the sadle sold with him was not the one she used when riding him so i got the sadle of her that she used on him.

things got better I left him a week and noticed a change in him he was watching my every move and trusting me so on sunday just gone I tacked him up and he even put his head down so I could reach to put the bridle on and my friend and my husband helped me to mount him but when it came to the crunch I couldent get on him I wanted to screem in frustration I wanted to ride him but I was too scared, so my husband jumped on him which socked me as my husband isnot a rider but max was good as gold so I got on him and Max followed my husband around with me on his back it felt good I then took him round by my self but found it difficult to keep him walking as I was still very self conshes of being thrown of but I got on him and dident get of untill I wanted to I was not thrown of a victory for me and a big confidence booster. I am going to ride today aslong as i have someone up at the yard with me and I will have more confidence to kick him on and my friend will teach me how to ride I am very exited for the summer as I carnt wait to hack out with him and our friends.

Hi Tina!! Welcome to NR!!

You've found the right place to post all your trials and tribulations of your horse & riding - this place is addictive.

Sorry it didn't work out with your Welshie. But be glad you learned much from him, and that you have Max to teach you new lessons now. I think you learned a good one about saddle fit!! I think I'll print your post for my OH, who seems to think all saddles fit all horses!!

Anyway, Welcome again. Hope to see a pic or two of Max on here soon. :)

Well done you for facing your fear and overcoming it!!! Not easy and takes a lot of guts to confront it.
I have a nice cob, who has been my friend for the past four and half years. I had only ever had several riding lessons before I bought him. But he has never put a step wrong. A complete gentleman in the stable and out. I have had lessons from an instructor on our livery yard and we started out on the lunge, and then walking around the sand menage, then down our lane. Gradually my confidence was built up. But my instructor encouraged me, supported me and bit by bit my confidence has grown and now we are doing some dressage comps. only very local level, but we do them. People on the yard are brilliant, encouraged and been interested in each bit of my development.
Max sounds like a super cob. Good luck with him and may all the years ahead be full of good times and good memories, and no more broken ribs!!!

Welcome, where do you keep him?

It is most important that you make sure the saddle is a good fit, otherwise you'll have real problems and could make the horse saddle phobic.

There are some good places to get lessons with your horse in your area.

Welcome!

Sorry to hear about your welshie, Max sounds great! Also, well done (not meant to be patronising!) for figuring out it was his saddle - Some would have just accepted it and sold him, you obviously are very in tune with him!

I hope you get your confidence back again - It feels horrible to not be able to do something you love. Take things slow, and try not to worry!

Welcome to NR. Sounds like you are doing great with your confidence. Just getting on a riding a horse after it has thrown you is a big thing. One of the major barriers to overcome is to get back on and try again. So good for you. Keep us up to date with your progress. I am a 33 yr old mother of 2 kids and 2 horses. Here they are. Bonnie is my daughter's 11hh Shetland. Captain is my 14 2 confidence giving cob. Would love to see piccys of your horse.

Great News. It is good that your husband can help as well. Unfortunately my husband doesn't really like the horse thing. He will only come up to the stables when I drag him to watch his Daughter ride.

I am however a little concerned about you not learning how to trot yet. What would happen if your horse spooks and goes straight into Canter?? Even the most bombproof horse will spook at something. Are you having lessons on your new horse? Do you have anywhere that you can trot without the worry of bolting. I was cantering by my 3rd lesson but I had the safety of being in a barn. If horse did bolt he couldn't go anywhere.

Not being picky just worried for your safety. ;)

I was worried. But it sounds as though you have every angle covered. I have read your other thread about your progress with max and it sounds as though you are really enjoying yourself. Sooo pleased. Riding is all about how big the smile on your face is. :-) :D
