we're moving yards on tueday. i want to make sure angel settles in okay etc.
anything i can do to help her with that?
she's been round the new yard before when i met people from there for a hack etc., so it won't be a total shock to her system. hacking will be exactly the same, she's even got her old bed in her new stable :)
how long should i wait till i turn her out with her new little herd? she was in a field bordering onto the new one most of the summer so will have seen the new horses before and has been on hacks quite a few times with one of them.

its good that you've put her old bed in her new stable.
if it's possible try sectioning off a part of the field or put her into an ajoining field so that she can sniff, but not fight with the herd. Then about 48 hours you can put her in with the rest (so im told)
however when i got happy i split the field in half with lekky tape and happy wanted to get to the other ponies so desperatly that we had to let her in after 4 hours! there was no fighting, kicking etc, only a couple of squels. But happy is very dominate and the other two are weeds, so it might be diffrent with a larger livery yard :)

she settled into the herd at the old yard with no problems. i couldnt fence any sections off so she went straight in (with me standing by the gate watching just in case ...). and started eating :)
dont think i can fence anything off at the new place either, but its a much smaller herd (around 10, all mares, the last place was 20+ mixed herd with a couple of hardcore kickers!).
and she better appreciates her old bedding, as i lugged it over bag by bag myself :D

at our old yard, new horses were put straight into the field after a 2 week isolation period. we never had any major probs, just the usual "who are you???" reaction with the new horse. if angel has been on the yard before then she will probably feel at home straight away.

if she was fine moving into the old yard then she will probably be fine moving into a smaller herd :)
todays the day! good luck! :D

At my old yard, a new horse was usually kept in for around 48 hours then was put in the school with a gelding (the same one every time), it doesn't have to be a gelding just one from the same herd.He was usually the one that got on with every horse and wasn't very dominant. We put them in the school together to make friends and the new horse then had a friend in the herd and was not just turned out with lots of horses that he'd never met.The herd was a mixture of about 14 mares and geldings.we never had any problems, unless the new horse seriously didnt get on with other horses, which was like never.

went okay :)
she was a bit confused when i brought her in from the field and took her 'the wrong way' ie. lots of looking around, taking it all in and stuff :)
put her in her new stable, after sniffing it up and down and playing with the broken automatic water thing, she startd eating and was dowzing shortly after.
went back to see her in the evening, she was fine. took her round the yard, no problems, she had a good look at the other horses, the arenas etc.
then i tied her up to sort out some stuff in the stable. she got a bit excited/flustered then and started winnying and walking on the spot. then she didnt want to go back into the stable. got her in and just as i was closing the door, she dived outside again  luckily i'd left the headcollar on just in case, so managed to grab her and put her back in the stable.looks like it took her half the day to realise she is not on a brief day trip :D

she could have gone out today but i thought that would be overkill :) so she's going out for the day on thursday (ladies only, i wonder how little miss i-have-5-gelding-boyfriends will cope with that one!) and hopefully back out 24/7 by the end of the month :)

ps: half the herd from the old yard escaped from the field last night (second time in the last 2 weeks!) because of a broken fence. some of them ended up on the road  luckily noone was hurt and angel was not one of them, she's smart enough to know where there is grass and where she *should* be.

im sure she will have forgotten about her bf in a couple of days :) she knows one of the mares from hacks, so im hoping those two will get on.
she does a lot of peeking out and looking in her new stable, taking it all in and grimacing at the lovely black cob mare next door (cob mare has only been there for a couple of days herself btw).

she was so calm and good today that i went a little crazy and took her on a spontaneous little solo hack (new yard has direct connection to the little bridlepath, no roadwork to get there - tempting!!). she was very good, even when we met people going homewards (a very lame attempt of following them but she didnt really pursue it any further!). fuelles by success we even had a little canter going AWAY from the yard which is an all-time first and has never been done on our own before :D she got a little strong and overly enthusiastic about it, but nothing scary :)

Sounds great! What are the facilities like compared to your old yard? I'm jealous that you can get straight onto a bridle path! :p

facilities were better at the old place but the new one isnt bad either: a sandschool (havent tried that yet!), a small indoor school (havent tried that yet either) and another outdoor school with a bizarre surface made of soil, sand and erm shavings. rode in the latter today, bit boggy in bits and the wood chipping need some getting used to. oh and the fact this school is surrounded by (occupied!) fields on 3 sides -> angel found that a little startling, esp when one of the ponies in the field followed her around along the fence. she also reverted to a spot of napping (towards the gate) in the school (very similar to when i first got her) but i managed to get her over it fairly quickly. im really getting the hang of this 'ensure the pony wony spin round' business :D

she joined the little mares' herd today :) went absolutely fine, there was a tiny commotion when i put her in (the others came running because they obviously wanted to have a good scratch and sniff!), but within two minutes, she had a good roll and started grazing. when i came to bring her in in the evening, she had found a new friend (again, a huge grey mare ... just like last time!) :)
took her on the bridepath again, we practised walk-halt stuff to get the brakes outdoors under control. she was being almost scarily eager and more than willing to go away from the yard!! in fact i had a little trouble turning her round again
i think we'll be very happy at the new yard, so far everyone has been very friendly and helpful :) someone even said we looked 'really nicely proportioned'!!!!! :D
