Has anyone tried this bit and what do you think?

Which particular one?

Fifi's in a KK Ultra french link eggbutt, and she seems to like it. It's a pretty substantial piece of metal (although that's not the reason we got it ;)), but does feel well made with no rough edges or anything else.

Our criteria was a french link with a peanut lozenge rather than a flat link with eggbutt cheeks made of a nickel free alloy, preferably with a large diameter to the mouth piece. There aren't too many on the market :p

Pepper certainly goes better in it, although she plays with it all the time.

The French link one. Was told to get one with a lozenge. Guess thats the same thing. Not sure whether to get a loose ring or eggbutt. Will only be using it for dressage/schooling.

They do a french link and a training french link - the difference (as far as I know) is the angle at which the lozenge is set, although I'm less clear on what difference it makes

We got Fifi an eggbutt as her lips are quite fleshy and we were worried they'd be pinched in a loose ring. What's he/she in at the moment? If they're happy in a loose ring then those are a fair few £££ cheaper - I think the eggbutt's are so expensive because there's so much metal in them

Bud likes his KK ultra, but I honestly don't notice a difference in how he goes relative to a regular (but shaped) french link. He likes either of these better than a single-jointed snaffle, but doesn't seem to show a preference between them.

My little mare loved her KK, but beware of cheap copies!! The bit is angled slightly to make it sit correctly across the bars in the horses mouth (The copies aren't angled!) :)
The loose rings wil help if a horse leans on you, they also come in different diameters of mouthpiece I think they are 16mm 18mm and 20mm

What's he/she in at the moment? :

She's currently in a hackamore cos she won't go in any bit. The KK Ultra was recommended by my instructor. Before, when we were having problem with her bit/mouth, she was in a loose ring french link happy mouth. But am wondering if the loose ring was pinching cos she has quite a small mouth and when she has the bit in her mouth it sits very close to her lips (its a 5.5" and she's only a 14.2h cob!) Also you can't use bit rings in dressage so I didnt have any protection.

It might be worth checking the old loose ring - I've noticed they can wear around the bit rings making problems with the pinching more likely. Do you know anyone with a KK ultra and/or an eggbutt bit you could borrow? The bit guards may be illegal in a comp, but riding with them would give you an idea of whether it was the bit or the bit rings that she doesn't like. If you can't borrow one I'd seriously consider a bit bank (if you can find one that stocks them) - we got ours from Derby House as that was the cheapest we could find in the UK, but it was still about £100 outright . Souldn't want you to get it and then find she just doesn't like bits....
