Today we hitched Rhi up to the cart and took her onto the roads for the first time. Keith was driving, I was leading and his wife Bev was walking along on the other side. A few hitches. The first the fact that she managed to get her tongue over the bit and we ended up going into the side of the kerb and she panicked a little, sorted the problem and off she went just fine. I took the lead rope off and got onto the cart still with Bev walking beside her. Keith then decided to trot her and off she went past the field with the horses and giving them a greeting (or else she was saying 'Look at me arn't I clever'). Took her to end of the road as far as we could as they are repairing the bridge. Had to rein back so I got off and helped her back. She was unsure of this but coped very well. On the way back she came across some little branches in the road this was a test for her as she either gives things a wide berth or walks sideway round them if she is unsure of them. She did her sideways thing and did not bother that her bum touched the side of the cart. She seemed to love every minute of it.
