2 things 1 major important the other minor important.

Val seems to be getting this undercontrol but i'm still worried, a while ago you all heard that Missy and Song got into a fight, Song started it and was absolutly wicked, chasing Missy and kicking at her, i can't blame song totally, Missy was kicking and screaming at song to. But Missy was shod and Song wasn't, and Missy tore a cut the entire length of songs near hind, and now it's infected, and then, Missy and Song were up in the pasture and got into a fight again, they can't seperate them, because of a deadline to get the grass cut and the canyon song is normally in is being cared for. The other 2 are divided between geldings/foals and mares. Both Song and Missy are mares.

I'm really worried about Song...could it become so bad that they have to kill her?
--------------------------------------------------------

And finally, I finally know for sure if i'm getting a horse, the answer is definantly, with out a doubt, yes. So now i'm saving to get things for the horse, so i would like, in order of importance, what to get, the tack isn't to important, I'm more comfortable with just a pad and bridle anyway, but what about stuff for caring for them? What is the best feed?

When i start horse shopping, i hope to get a dressage/trail kind of thing, i'm not very interested in jumping...

When I first got my horse (About last july!) I had a lot to buy her...
Here are the things in order of importance.. you may have some if you ride a lot!
*Halter&Lead
*Blankets(stable, turn out) You don't HAVE to have these.. but if you are working your horse in the winter it will keep the cooling out time lower!
*A small just incase kit.. Bith Bandages, some kind of disinfectent(I know I spelt that wrong!) and a small sponge and trust me this has came in handy a few times
*Brushes of course and a hoof pick!
Those are some things that I got for my horse right away! Oh ya and next I got fly spray and a fly mask... because she really HATED flies.. but than again what horse doesn't! hehee!

1st issue - not sure how big the field is with the 2 mares in - could they not be seperated by electric fencing stripping their current field in two?

2nd issue - i bought:

headcollar and lead rope
feed and water buckets
haynets
storage bins for feed (sugar beet and coarse mix - winter only as she's a good doer)
brushes - body/plastic curry/rubber curry/face/hoof/dandy/ a wide tooth comb to do her mane and tail (it's very thick) and a hoof pick
bucket brush to wash her buckets out with
yard brush & shovel
shavings fork
mane & tail spray (conditions & softens)
new bridle
new saddle (her old one wasn't a good fit and was falling apart)
new numnah
new girth strap
flourescent tabard for riding out in
lunge line
cavesson & roller (although i use headcollar on odd occasion that i lunge her)

I later added:
turnout rugs (as we came into winter); stable rugs;
small first aid kit - antiseptic / arnica / wound powder
fly repellent

Hi Silver. If this is the first time Song has got into a fight then, unless he repeatedly initiates fights and is genuinely dangerous, then I shouldn't worry too much. You said Val has got the situation under control. Sometimes horses do get into fights; it's their way of re-establishing control over the horse they're fighting against. If Song and Missy repeatedly have dangerous fights, but they are both OK in all other aspects of life, then see if they can be separated. I would speak to Val about it and try to find out what the situation is.

Please try not to worry too much - I know it must hard, but do talk to Val.

Fiona.

it isn't possible to seperate them, we have the geldings in one paddock, and 2 colts that are capable of...um...breeding them...and the canyon that song is normally in has been poisoned because we've got a deadline to make before june 1st...

Hi Silver. How regularly do they fight? Have they just been put in a field together?

is there any other horses in the fields, because if there is you should try to put just those two togeather and they might well try and bond as there are no other horses around. Often this works if one horse is being bullied by a herd, u take the domient one and put it with the bullied horse these then bond and the dominent on will look out for him when they are both put back into the herd.

This may not work in some situations…the dominant horse may just bully the other one when they're out alone.
