Boy if you want a good learning experence, have your instructor , or a friend tape you while you ride.
My instructor taped my lesson on Saturday, and she did a comentary along with the tape. Saying things like :
" look at your hands ,, why are they creeping up ? " ( I wore light colored gloves so my hands would show up better on tape )
" you look very good here, "
" Look how well you sit the canter "
" transison a little rough , what do you see that you can work on ? "

It was great.
first time I watched it I concentrated on me, the next time through I watched my horse. I ride a whole lot better than I thought I did, and my horse looks HAPPY :p

What a great confidence booster, I don't bounce around nearly as much as I think I do. It gives me hope that someday I will be an excellent rider. :D

It's a real Robert Burns kind of experience, huh - seeing yourself as others see you. :) I've been videotaped when I was a dance instructor and when I was a schoolteacher - but no videocamera at the barn. :( I brought my instructor one of those little disposable cameras once, though, and asked her to snap pictures at random, which worked fairly well. I was on the way to developing a terrible chair seat at the time - seeing those pics definitely made me work on opening my hips more!

I did my first videotaped lesson this Winter and I agree that they are tremendously informative. In fact, reviewing it was almost like having a couple of additional lessons. It really drove home the points mentioned by the instructor, as I could better see what she was talking about. Sometimes I "think" I feel what I'm doing, but the camera doesn't lie. :D

My friend videoed me on my digital camera so not brill quality, but its funny to watch. On that basis, I have booked a lesson!!! It will be my first lesson on Drummer and I have had him over a year! Mind you I haven't been ready before, I needed the confidence to be able to do anything the instructor asks and not go all nervous nelly on her!! lol! :D

i think thats a really good idea becuase you can see what your mistakes are and they you know what to improve on.
