*shiver* I've ridden for four years but due to a recent move from Yorkshire England to New Jersey, USA I haven't in two. I'm really nervous because my fist lesson in almost three years in next week and I want to make a good impression. Any tips?

Just relax. You are going there to be taught, don't fell you have to impress anyone :) Just keep your mind open and remember to breath and relax, you'll find even after a 3 year break it'll come back to you pretty quickly, it's not something you forget in a hurry :)

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

I agree with Shaka. Don't set out to make a good impression with your riding skills. You are going in order to get back in the swing of things. If you aren't at your "best," so be it... you'll get there. If you want to set a good impression focus on enthusiasm, good attitude, hard work, humility, and willingness to make mistakes along the way. If you have those things, a little rust in the stirrups won't hold you back for long.

I can only echo what the others have said. Being nervous is perfectly natural, but go in there with a positive attitude and don't be afraid to mess up! :D

Relax, don't think of trying to make a good impression, think of you ENJOYING yourself.

When I go for lesons I want to enjoy it and learn things, it's the instructors job to make a good impression on you, not the other way round, it's not an exam!

laugh when you mess up, then the horse will laugh too and everyone will be relaxed.
