Went out on a hack yesterday with 4 others. Had a young girl with us who has lost her confidence and so we took it steady with the canters and she seemed to enjoy herself. But I knew Captain needed a blast we had a plan whereby 2 of us would do a U in the stubble field but the young girl and an adult friend would just go straight across field in gallop. In less than a second the horses went full pelt. Captain did a 90 degree turn and decided he wanted to go with the straight route horses. By this time though they were already half way through field. Captain absolutley flew. I have never experienced anything so fast in all my life. I clung on for dear life panicking. I almost thought this is it I will fall at this speed. I consciously said Relax and my body sank. As I relaxed Captain lifted his head up high and then dropped into a 2nd gear of gallop.   we had caught up the other horses who were slowing to stand. I shouted to them " No brakes". :D Flew onto bridle path and leant back pulling on reins. As we all came to a stand we laughed our heads off. never had we realised they were so fast. I thought I had bought a plod. :p . He thinks he is a race horse. :D I would do it all again though. Once I relaxed I enjoyed it and the girl out with us couldn't wait to go out again.

Well, sounds like you got the perfect horse for you if you enjoyed it :D sounds like fun!! And sounds like you can learn alot from him, expecially how to relax and cope with these situations :)

Cool! This galloping lark could become adictive! :D

I think the spring weather is effecting them too. Drummer took off with me up the field again last week and I had a job stopping him! I also thought I had a plod! :p

sounds to me like Captain knew you were ready for a bit of speedy fun and took an executive decision for you ...

My Captain is absolutely Captain Sensible 99% of the time, but very very occasionally the cape and mask come out and he has a Captain Chaos moment  (and it's great!)

Captain Kodak - You are right my Captain is 99% of time Sensible but then now and again he really is chaotic. I do trust him though he has never done anything to scare me. He seems to take over and looks after me. When we hack alone is when I have to take over and look after him as he can be a wet nelly. :p

haha same happened with me and my old pony he was 21ish when i got him on loan . i took him out loads on his own and its was hard even to get him into a canter in the fields. A few months later i met up with a freind and her 10 year old Tb cross. He felt different on the road but thought he mite be a bit fresh. The first field we got my friend went ahead on her horse .patch reared up and shot pass the 10 year old Tb cross keep in mind he is 21lol . i was so amazed and just let him go i turned round and my freind was well behind me it was great though . Hes a little star :D
