I had my first solo hack yesterday on my new horse, and It was great! I was a little nervous as the first time we went out was with another horse she bolted, but she was wonderful - I even braved a trot and a tiny canter!
I feel so proud! Silly really
Theres only one problem! after reading posts on this forum I now sing when I feel nervous which really works - for some reason though I can only ever think to sing - were all going on a summer holiday! I think we are both getting a bit fed up with it! Plus i only know the chorus! :)

I wish I was as brave as you. I've had my mare for over two years and would love to do a solo hack but I'm such a wimp I only ever go out with somebody else and their horse. She's not a good leader and is very nervous and spooky so my excuse is that its a safety thing!! Maybe by the end of the summer we'll try it. My friend has even offered to follow behind in her car as there's lots of roadwork involved. Why do we do it?

I was singing and talking to myself on sat morning feeling rather chuffed i'd got past a killer fridge (kindly dumped by some scruff bag on the grass verge) and didn't realise a person was hidden in the hedge with her dog (calming the excited dog down).
She caught me in the pub yesterday and said "i heard you talking to your horse and so i took the dog out of the way". :o Felt a right berk, the poor woman thinks i have a mental problem now :p
Well done claude and everyone else who's just started going off alone, it's really scary and takes a boost of determination to do it.
I think it must be the better weather spurring everyone on because i've just started doing it with my mare as well as it's too sunny and nice some days to waste them :)

Well done you Claude! :D I'm looking forward to the day when I get the chance to do the same, is it a bit like when you pass your driving test and you go for the first ride on your own - ie, with no instructor sat next you you???? :D I can remember that well (even though its a LOT of years ago!)......

Claude - You have been stalking me haven't you. You have caught me singing "Were all going on a Summer Holiday". I thought no-one was watching. I went out on a solo hack a few weeks ago in the driving sleet. As Captains nerves deterioted I started to sing. This was the only song I could think of as well. Try Happy Birthday to You. It is a cheerful song. :D

Good job! Doesn't it feel great once you have done it? I was shaking all over the first time I hacked my new horse out alone. I have been doing it for a week and a half now and on Saturday we cantered fast for the first time. Afterwards I leaned down and gave Cherokee the biggest hug. She probably thought I was crazy. I sing Disney songs--and stuff from musicals even though I can barely remember all the words
