I apologize to sarah for copying the thread idea but looking at all the positive responses has made me realise that people on here are happy to be creative and help out with show names :) as the people i've asked in real life haven't been too fussed so i sort of lost enthusiam a bit.

So for all those people feeling creative then please could someone help me think of a show name for my lass. Her name's libby and she's a 16.1 bay mare with typical mare nature although she does resemble a donkey on most occasion and not a tb  lib (http://www.mclarenenterprises.com/auctpics/libposer.jpg)

I could go for a serious pretty name like Libby of the valley or then again i could go for a name which sums her up. She's a loving girlie but most of the time she's a bit dim <-- like her owner :D But on occasion she can get her grumpy queen diva mare attitude on. So i thought a name which makes me laugh and reminds me of her would be an idea like

Dynamite donkey, Muffin the Mule

Quite like "Hope and pray" though :p

Please someone (SarahC?) what is a show name? And why do horses have an extra one? And is it always two words?
Carrimclaren, did you choose the name Libby? And if so, does that give a clue to the right show name for her and for you? If I had a Libby who was obstinate and sometimes a diva, - I'd call her "Miss Bennett" after Elizabeth Bennett.

How about Ad Lib?

Skib, a show name is simply the name that the horse is shown under. To distinguish it from other horses at the show (or possibly a large number of horses registered with the showing association), the names chosen are often longer, or at least less common, than the names we use to refer to our horses around the barn. They don't have to be two-word names, but they need to be unusual enough that the horse isn't mistaken for another horse.

Hi Skib,

I didn't choose libby, her name that i bought her with was ibby but everyone had misheard and called her Libby instead  It was a bit sad really as a friend had a little girl about two years ago and she's called libby so it gets confusing when she's on about her child and i'm on about my horse :D

Hi carrimclaren,

Firstly, no apologies necessary!! I'd still be trying to think of a name by now if it wasn't for everyone on NR!!

Anyway, I found the website that Eventerbabe put up really useful...All I did was search through until I found a couple that sounded nice...but I didn't use the names they'd given, rather took one word from one name, one from another and added them together!! :D

ps. Liberty's Ride or Libby Elita?
