What are the best breeds for a beginning horse rider? I'm 90kg and 6'3 so I need something sturdy :D

Cheers

If I were you I wouldn't worry too much about the breed, but more about the personality. Find a horse you fall in love with which is up to your weight and whatever disciplines you want to do, and have fun!

Hi
as you are tall you dont want anything much under 15hh but a good cob would be good as the are very comfortable to ride especially as you have got long legs. It does not have to be a heavy weight cob just something with a bit of bone.
But remember temperment is first and foremost.

you should see what horses there are in australia to see what what would be best for your weight + height!

I don't know if they're common where you live (Australia, my guess from floppy's post) but what about a Quarter horse? They come very stocky, tall, big boned, and they're a work horse so they're pretty strong! Cobs, like mentioned, are also good.

Happy Hunting!

I agree with Maci...a Quarter Horse sounds ideal for what you want. Most have super nice, even temperaments and are very sturdy. There is a huge range in size and shape so happy hunting!!

The ideal breed for a beginner doesn't exist. The ideal horse for a beginner is any breed which has a kind, patient nature. Kind, patient horses come in all breeds, all ages and in the most unlikely places, go and look at all sorts with an open mind.

I agree with Wally. I think you should look at lots of different horses of different breeds and see which horse suits you best. If you decide on the breed that you want before you even start looking then you could miss out on some really good horses.

It doesnt matter what breed the horse is as long as it is up to carrying your weight and height. Whatever horse that you get on well with and is suitable for your riding capabilities will be perfect!:)

I agree with everyone!

but, i just have to say that hanoverians and other warmbloods are sometimes bigger boned than others, and are taller usually so would maybe be more comfy. I just had to say that because I LOVE Hano's, and all warmbloods! :)

But it totally depends on what you are looking for in a horse and the personality etc of the horse.

Good Luck!

this is just an idea and i agree with everyone about not be concerned about the breed, but some breeds are more suitable as first horses than other ones. I would not recommend TB's they are a little high strung. But you probably already know that. some are different and are very calm though. I recommend a quarter horseX or an AppaloosaX. they are incredibly sweet, and are usually tall enough for most riders. Good luck finding your perfect horse!!!!!:) ;) :D
