Hi Sophie,
the best way to remember a course is to walk it first, then try and picture in your head the track you will ride on your horse, then (if you are not the first person to go) watch a few of the others go first. When you are in the ring take your time, don't go blasting round, trot between the jumps if you are not sure, keep the next jump in sight, the jumps should all be well marked.
The real problem arises when, if you are lucky to make the next round remembering that course (only kidding that is usually shorter any way).
Remember to always go through the start/finish markers and try not to turn a circle in the ring. Combinations (doubles or trebles) can catch even the most experienced rider out, ride positively for all the jumps not just the first part. The first jump is also very important, many riders knock this down or refuse because they (not the horse) back off it. Some jumps look more scarey than others, they are there to frighten you not the horse, so remember ride positively to all of them. You have paid your money and you are going to give it your best shot. But most importantly enjoy yourself.

Hope this helps, don't forget let us know how you get on.

good luck
Lesley
