I was just interested to see how many of us on NR have a Dr Cook Bitless Bridle, you could also put when you got it then we can see who got theirs first!!

If you have another type of Bitless, please add your name and what type of Bridle you use too, then we can see how many are bitless altogether.

I will edit and gradually make a list of everyone, so me first:

I did buy a dr cook style Bitless bridle, but ended up returning it because it didn't work.

Got it some time in 2002, I think.

Archer and I went bitless end of Feb 2005 (thanks to DM and Yann!) This is a great pic of my boy's head but I did adjust the bridle down a hole after seeing it!

Moi! Dr Cook a couple of months ago after some cunning persuasion by Sheila, Nobit since April 2003 before that. Haven't used either exclusively though, just mostly for hacking out.

well Taz has had a dr cooks since 2000 , a black and white synthetic. Twas thinner than the present ones and I hated the reins that went with it (except for the snaps which I thought were great idea)..... so I used my fave plaited reins with it ... or a rope set.....

Now Taz has a newer beta one and I think it is much, much better.

Can do the neck rope bit a litle ..... although not been doing it long so needing lots work in it !

hi all,

Thought we would add our bitless gear to the list. We dont have a Dr cooks but ride bitless most of the time. We tried and didnt like the cooks bridle because our horses didnt. It seems they objected to the slow release of pressure and with our softer horses, they received mixed cues. As we didnt want to spoil our work by retraining the pintos, we just sold the bridle.
we use the following:
Rope halters (Parelli style)
Rope Hackamores (parelli style)
Coiled noseband rope halters(1/2 bosal)
Leather braided bosals
and 3 custom designs that may or may not ever reach the market

It easy for us as we have made rope riding gear for years, but this type of info being shared in forums is invaluable. No one wants to waste hard earned cash on something one knows very little about. Personal experiences are the best source of this type of info.
Have fun & Ride safe

On our RA's recommendation I put Saff bitless for a couple of months in November 2004, she was in an English Hackamore though I rode her in a Dually with reins a couple of times :)

sorry Yann but DM did say this in her post ..... :)

I didn't want to leave other bitless people out, I like to be fair and I felt mean just saying Dr Cook!!

It looks like you were the first bitless Tazzle!

Mine is still rubbing under Drummers chin, its the seam where the buckle is attached, on the bigger nose band there is an extra protection flap but this one doesn't have it! I have a protection thingy from Sheila ordered though!
