hi guys
when merlin comes home i want to keep him on ad lib haylage for his box rest to stop him from getting colic. could i fill 1/4 of his haynet with normal well soaked hay aswell??
any help appreciated:D

yes, it's fine to mix it. you might even want to swap more haylage for hay, if he is going ot be in for a long time - you don't want him with too much energy or getting fat.

he'll only be on box rest strictly for 1 month then he can start going out. :D

Try to avoide haylage, it has a very high engery level what you dont want, Esp if he is on box rest, his head will blow off! You also have to watch for azortiar {sp} the high engery {suagr} in haylage could cause this. My old mare was lame so had to be on box rest, and went down with the azotrea with in 3 days. {As we did not relise this at the time, this was 9 years ago}
Also watch what you feed him. Just try to feed chaff, and pony nuts oh and vits & mins. Till he goes out.

im keeping him on ad lib which he is now and just wanted to add hay for taste lol :p .
hell be on 1/2 honey chop, 1/4 alfa a, 1/4 cool mix once a day,and 1/2 cond cubes to keep the weight on :D
