Hi
A while ago went to visit my mum's friend and her horse. My Mum's friend went away for a while to see one of her friend's horses and left me and my Mum in the stable by ourselves. I had taken some carrots and mints with me and they where in my coat pocket.
As soon as my Mum's friend went though, the horse started nudging me and my Mum and as he is over 16hh and I was quite scared especially when he pushed my Mum really hard. When my Mum's friend got back my Mum told her what had happened and she thought it was funny and said he was really clever for smelling the mints out. She really likes her horse and thinks he is perfect. Am I over-reacting and being stupid???

I can see why it would be intimidating but carrying food in your pocket like that will provoke that reaction in most horses - I certainly wouldn't see that as threatening behavior - if it was one of mine they would get told off for being pushy but it is not a major problem really, it is a very common horsey reaction. He will have been able to smell the treats through your pocket easily and was just asking for some.

horses will be horses eh?? I remember Dylan headbutted me so hard last year i put my teeth through my lip - blood everywhere - it was my fault though I had a packet of polos in my top pocket which he thought he should have!!! :) Mind you he does headbutt a lot, I think its a sort of 'kiss' thing with him tho, he sort of rubs his head all over you and then ......... shoves as hard with his head as he can........... he thinks it hilarious!!!!! ;) I don't think he realises his own strength, but he's definately NOT being nasty, he's more being friendly and playing games!!!!
